I need to renew the headlining in my 69 tin top , as a newbie to this forum and the risk that this has already been a past topic what are yours views on ply or traditional fabric ? And also the ease of fixing either ?

Wood and fabric are two different methods of fitting. Does your bus have rails running along each side of the inside?....This is where your wooden headliner will slot in. Fitting a fabric headliner is a windows out job and probably new rubber seals. The baltic birch headliner kits are the easiest option.

Hi Linney, I recently fitted a ply headlinging to my '69 tin top as the fabric lining was almost falling off and all split. I didn't have runners down the side of the bus so I improvised, this is how I did mine:

It really was easier than I thought it was going to be.

Thanks chaps my mind is made up I will go for the ply and the trim from B and Q , also follow your great pics and instructions .

This is another on my list of one million things to do  Post lots of pics so we can get around some of the pitfalls whichever way you choose to go

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I like the material one,,,,,,,,, but I like the wood  ;)

Well my thanks go to sacramentobay , I followed your method step by step , the only deviation was that I used self tappers instead of pop rivets . I unfortunately didn't take any photos as it all happened so quickly ! I had already put the trim on (from B and Q ) and the ply arrived this afternoon great quality from Beers in Warrington £20 per sheet (1525x1525x3mm ) and £15 delivery to Manchester , so £75 in total for 3 sheets and carried to my door !
So far I have put two pieces in , from the back 48'' to the 1st roof strengthener and then a further 47 1/2 '' to the next roof strengthener , just the front piece to put in the cab area and then either cover strips or if I can locate some plastic H section the same as used to join wardrobe backs I will use that . The width is obviously determined on where you fix the channel so I first made a template and I will use this to check the narrowing at the front and adjust accordingly . The first two pieces were easy to fit .I will let you know how I fair with the front piece .

No its not, loads of people have refitted headliners with windows in situ, do a search on here. I do agree that wood is the easiest option though.

Yes I agree , I will slide the middle section out and put back after fitting the front !

I enjoyed it ! Your blog made it so that mistakes just didn't happen and the natural finish of the bare ply certainly brightens up the whole bus . Many thanks . Paul
