Ok, who in your opinions, can supply the best quality and most efficient heat exchangers, and at what cost?

Thats not a bad price, i thought they would have been more than that.

Deffo worth getting good second hand ones, I think all the new ones are pritty much ****.

well as u asked ... FBi vw bought original bug ones and then converted them to van lever operation - I think they were £40 or £50 each but I can't find the receipt.

That is cheap!! not a problem that their bug ones so long as the cable fits ok. Deffo worth a look at that price. The ones on my bus are bug but dont have the lever on the outside. Their in pretty sound shape so I might have a look at trying to modify them.

perhaps I got it wrong then - I'm sure I bought a pair of hex's and a engine lid, and I'm convinced it was less than 150 for all 3.

Apols in advance then if I've told you wrong

it does take some doing to convert properly - as in you do have to cut the flap end around weld some shaft ext in - I've got pics somewhere when I did it

yeah I think all heat exchangers are teh same apart from teh mechanism, dont ask me hoe they are converted, but I'm sure it can be done. I need to do mine a tehya re wired to always on, not a big problem in teh UK they need to be on most of the time :p

Snap!!

Out of interest and without getting under the bus, anyone know what diameter the center heat tube is?

Hi,
We do not do the conversion but we have beetle heat exchangers in stock (genuine used) which are imported from California at £45 each plus £10 pair P+P. Should be about an hours work to convert them to fit a bay or if you have a split they do not require conversion.

As sent today by fbi.

Hi!

AFAIK, you can fit bug ones to a bus by simply bending the metal lever upwards, instead of down like on a bug. Though i have not tried it myself, as my AE bug engine has them wired on all the time, and as they kick out silly amounts of heat, i have been reluctant to bend them in case i brake them totally - but this is what i got told all you need to do! 8) If it's that simple - result!

Cheers!

Alistair

its not quite that easy.I have done mine, and struggling to find the pics.

you basically take the cap off the flap end, and weld a new bracket on....I'l search again for the pics - I took a few whilst I did it in the summer....

back soon---at last found them! these are not in any order and I will nip out and get a finished one [forgot that before]

not sure why they are so MAHHOOOOSIVE - I did resize them too! oh well

one of the hex needed a new hole making on the outside for the shaft and new bracket to exit - dremel worked wonders.
It's labour intensive but easy - the shaft  shots are to show how I extended it.

And I'm pleased the price was right!

Just a quickie, regards heater cables for a 69. Is there a difference between left and right hand drive cables?
