In the last two years i have used the van for 3 proms and 2 weddings all of which i did as favours where no money changed hands.

Today i have been asked to do another wedding but am unsure.
My insurance covers me for entering rallies and static displays like Dubs@the Castle but obviously not for hire.
Likewise if you charged for the privilege will you not need a Hackney licence or something as well as CRB checks?

Is it worth the extra hassle??
I am like a sarn't major with my own kids around the van let alone anyone else's so i know i would not relax,my last PROM i did i shouted and threatened a bloke with a Horse and Carriage because he turned in front of me down the wrong way in to the lane i was in and got very close to the van,to which i told him if he "Touch the van i will break your ****ing legs along with your nose!!"

Is there anyone out there that use their vehicles for special occasions??

Regards.

Sharky.

Hi, my insurance covers weddings ( cost a little bit more), oh and I have public liability just for peace of mind, I do a few a year (subby to a local wedding hire company) and I enjoy it to be honest, it gets me out in the van and it pays for the upkeep, you don't need a taxi licence for weddings or funerals believe it or not?? proms are a different kettle of fish though for some reason, the company I subby for looked into it and it just wasn't worth it because of all the red tape ie medicals for drivers, vans would need private hire plates on them and I think she said then they couldn't be used privately as well, effectively the van would be a taxi??, so proms are a no go, I have done a couple like you for friends kids though and not charged,
so its worth it, but you got to be a bit relaxed about your van, brides a usually a bit nervous a need a chilled out driver 8) , obviously not if somebody damages anything, (ive never had any bother) but only do it if your going to enjoy it

regards...........kev 8)

Seems your not really enjoying it Sharky, are you really suited to Bay ownership? Is it a case or this is not living but just existing  there's a lot more to it than having 25k Bus & just worrying about it.
Sell it & get a T5. ;) & bugger the poxy weddings.

1 wedding and a prom here.

Very nervous both times but comes with the teritory unfortunately.
If it stresses you that much I wouldnt bother.

We do weddings but not prom hire for exactly the reasons stated earlier. Insurance isn't too big a deal for weddings but prom hire adds a whole heap of extra red tape (although I'm tempted due to the large number of requests we get). If you start doing weddings regularly then feel free to get in touch.

As for being protective over your bus - that never goes away. We did a magazine shoot with a shire horse and the thing was kicking out all over the shop. I was stressing out but in the end, that's what insurance is for if the worst comes to the worst. Just make sure you have an agreed value before you start.

cant you just say that the people in the back are your friends, what i mean is if you were in a normal car taking guests to a wedding you wouldnt look into all this would you, i see no diffence in the real world TBH ,

just an opinion. two weddings to do this year too. i aint even got an engine

I am doing weddings as well and my insurance / public liability will cover and is not too expensive. Another point - don't offer bottle of bubbly unless alcohol free, otherwise you will fall foul of licensing laws. They can bring their own of course. The cost of getting the alcohol licence is way to much to bother with.
