Right here goes....

Been decifering my VIN and M Plate codes but have stumbled a little here and there so can you help?

VIN:

Typ 23 - 517 meaning type 23 kombi and campmobile

VIN: 23*******

2125
975 1150 I have no idea what these numbers mean????

Now onto the interesting bit!!!!

M-Plate

03 5 meaning 3rd of May production date

518 525 meaning campmobile with pop top and 3 point safety belts
up front with lap belts in the rear.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

21 426 367 507 517

The 21 means panel van according to VM how can this be????

426 means specifiactions for the USA

367 ????

507 means vent wings in cab doors. Does this mean opening quarterlights????

517 means campmobile.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UT 2310 523907 ******* - this bits the VIN number.

UT means picked up by first owner a the factory in Germany but meant for the US.

2310 ????

523907 means Pearl White Colour code L87 which is a specific code to only Westfalias even though the colour is standard.

The 07 bit of the above code means leatherette interior.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So...

Where I have put ???? I really have no idea what it means and any help would be brill.

The biggest weird bit is the code UT coz this is meant to be a panel van yet the VIN etc indicates a kombi.

Quick run down on my bus it's an original USA Spec Westy Campmobile 67 which has lived all it's life in Washington State but since been imported here.

Here's a couple of pics...

Next couple of questions.... Ok Ok 3!!!!

What colour should the pop top be??

What colour should the bumpers be??

What colour should the wheels be??

They are as you can see in the post above white (non VW colour and I recon out of a aerosol!!) but as I'm having a bit of paint done now due to tangling with a lorry I want to sort out any other bits at the same time.

Last question...

I'm missing the USA Overiders as previous owner ditched them coz they were rusty   !

If anyones got a set in good nick that they are willing to sell then my bus would luv them

Cheers

Fraggle

My bus was all Pearl white originally and my bumpers seemed to be pearl white also.

Awesome bus too, wish my '68 looked like that.:D

no problem, kinda like finding out the history of a Dub, yours as travelled a fair way if it was collected from the factory 8)

Speedman, can you tell me where to find the M plates on my bus?

Would be great if you could do the same for me as above 8)

Should be a small plate about 2" x3" on the bulkhead behind the drivers seat, take a photo of it and any others you find and I'll have a go

I have 3 plates on my 1970.

2 behind the drivers seat and the all important one behind the passenger seat :D 8)

Hi Tofufi

Go on the FAQ section of this forum first and have a go at decifering it yourself as trust me it's really cool finding out what all the codes mean.

I asked Speedman to help as I couldn't work out some of them and got stuck but I did find half of them myself which was good fun.

Cheers again Speedman 8)
