Hi, a while since I've been on here, and regretting selling my Cali 70 Deluxe back in the summer. :(

So much so I have now found another in Vancouver and have just about closed a very good deal. :D
So I need some advice on importing please. I kinda get the jist. The bill of sale will be $1950 so what would be the duty payable? What kind of fee might I be charged? what other expenses will I pay?

I have been recommended to speak to Kingstown Shipping ltd, or can you suggest another firm to handle the shipping?

The seller lives in Vancouver, so will deliver to the port. It has a clean title. Now, 'bill of sale document' is this a special form that needs filling in by the seller? I know he would need to photo copy and send me a copy of both, anything else to think of?

Any help will be most welcome as this is obviously my first flirtation with importing so need clueing up pretty quick as things are moving fast the other end.

Mark.

I was looking at shipping from Vancouver with Kingstown but it was a good bit more expensive and I would have to wait until the container
was filled, with no guesstimate how long that could be.

Kingstown will look after all the paper-work and give you a bill for the total.

I am not sure on exactly what forms or paper work you will need, but you will need the current log book for that country & a receipt of purchase.

The fees are work out as the purchase price, say £2000, plus the shipping, something like £1200, plus 10%, then add VAT on all of it! Just over £4,000 from what I remember.

Others will be along shortly to correct me.

Thanks fellas,
Shame its not on the east side, roll on roll off is a lot cheaper. Don't have that option from Vancouver.

Bit of a minefield and needs to be researched before taking the final plunge. That said it is a very solid bus, all interior and headlining are in very good order, and all the belt trim is complete and virtually undamaged. Only downer is that it is a non runner. Mind you it has been barn stored for the last 4 years, so probably would need some tinkering with. For the price I think its still worth pursuing.

Thanks again for your replies :)

roro is not an option for a non runner non braker...it is cheaper though...if i were you i`d get other people involved cos a 20ft costs a fortune and if you containerise then you can fill the bus with parts...on a dollar to the pound note....you must be either mad or the deal is so good that you cannot refuse..i thought american imports were dead in the water

Have you actually checked shipping prices, as I have recently looked at a bus in the US and shipping costs are high at the moment, I was quoted the equivilant of £1800 for a single bus.

I have to agree with Scott that unless its a minter its going to cost you more than a bus thats already sat in the UK needing some work, plenty of imported buses sat in the UK at the moment!!

Just to echo what has been said above, the car I was looking at shipping from Vancouver was
unique and would be difficult finding something of similar spec in UK, I wouldn't have considered it otherwise.

Streetboy are you from Leatherhead?
Was your Deluxe Red with a knackerd sunroof  ?
If so its in good hands.

Hope your looking after it? give it back!!

Thanks for the replies gents, roro......doh

I'm waiting for a few shipping companies to get back to me with quotes at the mo. I take on board all that has been said, and know I still have a lot of thrashing out to do yet.
Is the bus a minter? no, but it is very solid, staight, interior original and very tidy barring a de-dust, and it fits the bill for what I've been looking for. I have a shed load of detailed pics and have built a good picture of the bus.

I have not seen what I'm looking for here, and anything near it is a lot of dosh.

Lots to think about :|

Just a thought this, maybe if there was someone who wanted to bring some parts over, we could share the container and come to an arrangement on the cost? As I say just a thought.

Have you compared it to anything on Craigslist.com?

Shipping from Oakland for example would be a lot easier and cheaper...

No, but I'll have a look cheers :D

I've just kinda fallen in love with this old girl, you know how it is

Only problem with container shipping a minter is it has to be handled by the dock monkeys.

They don't like pushing, but love their forklift.
I nearly had kittens first time I went to the docks as I watched a very straight split double cab wobbing around on a fork lift!

Yeah, I've heard some horror stories.

I've dug around and found a shippers in Quebec who will handle it for £1200 from Vancouver to London Thamesport. The Canadian dollar is a much cheaper rate compared to the US dollar. That came to nearly $1500. they also offered to pick it up and deliver to port for £80. No probs there as the seller said he will do it for me. He also said he will try to get her running if only to move her enough for loading.

I have others companies coming back to me and will try to play them off and see if I can get a deal, You never know

Keep the thread going fella - I'd like to know how you get on cos I know of two lovely vans in Canada that could come this way through Vancouver. Like others on here it's the bloody dockers I worry about - those at Thamesport have a sad reputation for bending other people's property. Best advice is to be there when the container is off loaded and take the van out yourself.

Will try to fella

The Company I refered to are actually based in Richmond which is smack bang in the middle of the Vancouver docks. The guy has been very helpful explaining the whole process and giving me a detailed breakdown of costs. They also send extensive and detailed digital pictures of the van before loading and once in container. As a reference for vehicle condition before sailing.

Basically I have worked it all out from their shipping out of Vancouver, their counterparts handling charges this end, customs entry, duty @ 10% and vat @ 15% on the lot came to........£3652.00

I just would not find what I'm looking for on this side of the water for that.

This is why I have decided to import.

As found in a barn in Oregen;

I couldn't help myself at what I got it for, a steal

Well the deal is done :D

I now await comfirmation from the shippers.

The guy has been A+++++ so far is working hard to get me the best deal. Very impressed with his efforts so far. A really nice guy

Congrats on the purchase and good luck with the shipping.

Keep an eye on the ship here -
