Intro and Quick Q on colour

Hey guys, merry Christmas.
I’m new to the scene so will probably end up asking you guys plenty of stupid questions so I apologise now. I have loved all things vw since I was a nipper, when I was seven my dad told me that if I start saving now I should be able to afford one when I can drive so here I am 10 years down the line with my beautiful 71 camper renamed Ella.
First Q Is this a original vw colour and any ideas where I can get a matching colour to touch up ready for stencils to be painted on top

Has it still got it's M - Plate - usually on the passenger side behind the seat!

Hi Ric, Merry Christmas and welcome.

I think the 'standard' red colour for the '71 model year was Chianti Red (paint code L31H), and looking at your van the colour seems very close to that. It is of course possible that the van has been re-painted or partially re-painted in a similar 'non vw' shade, but my money is on that colour.
As gninnam says, the 'M' plate would tell you (in coded numbers), or if you are lucky the paint code sticker is still in your van (silver with black writing) in the same area as the 'M' plate, but possibly that is no longer present?

yeah thats looking very much like a tired Chianti red......any decent paint shop should match the colour and blend it

Thanks. Plans what are these plans you talk of ? some old logos stenciled on the side drop her a little more at the back and some shiney wheels would be nice she is going to have a camping interier with space for my paraglider.
Yeah I like the idea of a thread will get one sorted tomorrow.
