Got a old Nano 8G and im fed up with shifting albums about because its full. Dont think i could manage the new Nano as its too tiny so the question is..............I pod classic or not

Its not been updated for a couple of years and could either be revamped/replaced before Christmas or discontinued all together. Knowing Apple they wont drop the price either way and will just cut back on supply till it sells out so i doute there are any money savings if i wait. Cant see anything else with the same amount of storage and a ipod touch is not for me.

Just being lazy i suppose as ive got all my tunes on the laptop which i take to sea with me anyway but just get fed up moving stuff around when im either in the bar or out and about with the headphones.

Any help or suggestions please.
Cheers J

Get a big classic and its 'unlikley' youll fill it. Ive got many films on mine as well, loads of room!

Clyde, I've got a 160GB Classic sitting at home doing nothing except gathering dust if you are interested. It's a couple of years old (6th gen) but has hardly been used since I got a phone not long after buying the Classic. I've got the box, manuals, leads everything, finished in black and in very good condition. £120 any good to you?

Ps, sorry to jump in on your thread like a vulture trying to make a sale but I keep meaning to sell it and keep forgetting and up popped your thread.

Yep, still rocking a classic here (5th Gen). Not moved into the world of iPhones yet. I seem to recall specifically getting a 2nd hand 5th off ebay 'cus it outputs video via component so can be connected to external screens better??? All though I have yet to use this function yet

Get the Classic.

I run a 120gb classic fitted in the ashtray of my bug, linked to the retrosounds headunit. I bought a cheap mini-dock that had a built in remote, i ran a IR remote extender under the dash and it works brilliantly. Tons of space and easily hidden away.

I will do the same with the bus once finished. The dock is the perfect size for the ashtray.

I have an 80Gb classic and have my entire music collection on there, which I think works out as 28 hours of music as well as a few films, and it's only about half full. Wouldn't "upgrade" for anything.

I just checked, I have the 160 GB classic. Current music is 7158 tracks @ 37.74 GB. 13 movies @ 7.64GB.

I dont reckon it will ever be full. :)

Black Classic should be here tomorrow, engraved and delivered for free.
Need some new headphones now...........

Bose, in ear headphones, expensive but worth every penny if you are a fussy bugger like me.

I have managed to fill my 160Gb Classic by the way  ! (hi res audio every time, no mp3 for me. If you like your bass with definition, seriously the only way to go, unless you like to listen to mud! :D )

Ok, I'm doing this from memory so I may miss some bits so I'll check when i get home. Now this could take some time, do you already have iTunes? Have you already digitised/ ingested all your music? If you have, making all your current music files Hi-res will be a waste of time. With hi-res (hi quality audio) you need to ingest it at this quality from the outset. For example, youve just got your new CD and want to stick it in iTunes, First, I'm assuming you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes (if you are using it) and second are you are on a PC or a Mac? Next, you want to be looking for (properties for a PC, preferences on a mac) and select. Then once in this window select advanced, it is here that you select the type of file/ encoding that you want your ingested music to be. The last time I looked there were four options, basically you need to make your files at least the same quality as a CD so select anything with a sample rate of 44.1kHz, unless you are an audio pro I wouldnt go any higher. AIFF is the one i would go with as its a bit more universal than the others. Basically that's it bar a few other minor details, I'll pm you my number if you want to be bored even further.

I know it cant be an exact science, but if you transfer cds onto an ipod at standard quality what size are they (assuming a 40 minute album)? More to the point, how many albums would you get on a 160GB iPod?

Its too late for me, but its an interesting concept.

ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I was lost after four lines...

Ipod classic is defo the way to go unless you are a compulsive music buyer or have a set of decks in the back of your bus!....Hang on....I've just had an idea.....!

Would love to see some ideas on installs in this thread with pics. I am at the stage where this will be my next move and am thinking Ipod through an amp with a small sub buried somewhere, small speakers in the front kick panels and some removable speakers that can go in the awning/dance tent :D

In the middle of doing my install. I'm gonna resist saying too much but it's similar to what you've described above in brief :)
Head unit with iPod control
Audio processor
1x 4channel amp for speakers in dash and kicks and rear overhead locker
1x mono amp for 12" sub
