I got on and off OK last year, there's a bit of road when loading up to come back that I needed to avoid, but all OK. If I had still had my quiet-pack it might not have been the same story!

I go on & off the isle quite a bit.

If you let the guys know on the ferry they have ramps for lower vehicles. Redfunnel the best one for access for low slung vw's as the lower deck loading platforms are good. The only time there'll be an issue (need for the chaps to get the ramps out) is at low tide coming onto the island.

If cheaper tickets on the other ferry, Wightlink, the best crossing for lowered vehicles is Lymington to Yarmouth ( its a more scenic route aswell  ).

Hope that helps?

If you boys break down/get stuck in and around southampton (as if you would break down...) and need some local support give me a shout as I live a few miles out of southampton.

Plus there is a couple of very good friendly specialists near by that seem to work all hours god sends...

 that is soooo true! its a mind opener for sure!

Matt,

I am assuming you;ve not been on the island before then?

Imagine a place like Royston Vasey, it's a local place for local people, and you will be half way there. There's people on the island that have never left and wont visit the mainland...

Don't get me wrong it is a brilliant place to visit and I love cmaping over there with the kids, doing the whole sea side thing but it is old fashioned... :)

You arrive in Cowes and it's not to dissimilar to the mainland, lots of people visiting in their boats keeps it upto date, but as you drive out of cowes you notice the time warp :) Brilliant.

I used to work on the Island (and went to school there for a time). :)
It is indeed like going back in time. Some lovely villages, and some great views from the downs.
I particularly like Yarmouth, which is a lovely little port that I have visited hundreds of times over the years.

Your '67 will feel at home over there too, as there are a lot of classic cars on the Island! 8)
