Lower column bushing

Hi. Last week I changed my steering coupler, while doing this I unbolted the plate in the cab floor which had the plastic bush just floating round doing nothing.
I tried to fit a new bush which snapped in half of course...luckily the old one is good. However I just can't seem to compress it enough to get the plate around it n sit in the groove. Only option I can see is fitting it with the column off then sliding it over?

Must be a simpler way to this-any tips?

Mine was a pig and had to be turned to just the right angle to get it

I gave up on mine and turned up a ptfe bush to sit between the inner and outer columns. The original is just cosmetic.

Had the same problem yesterday, ended up trimming off the little lip inside the bottom edge. Went in a treat after that.

Id thought of that but not got round to Giving it a go, been busy with cleaning and stonechipping my chassis (really really fun job haha)
