Hi,

My van misfires when first started from cold, this continues until it starts to warm up. Once warm and when starting from warm it doesn't misfire. Is this worth investigating or is it 'normal'? If its worth looking at then what's likely to be the cause?

Cheers

Mike

Hi,

Assume as a 71 it's a stock TP engine with the solex pict 34 carb? It may be that your choke needs adjusting, worth checking I think - going from cold start in Jan to cold start over summer there will be an adjustment required - what are the revs like on cold start? Might be worth checking the choke is functioning correctly

First thing to check is that when cold and ignition off, press the accelerator pedal to set the choke and then go to engine and make sure that the throttle shaft is on the stepped cam piece

Its got weber twin carbs so no choke is fitted. Sorry, should have said in my original post!

Ahhh! That might explain it a bit then :) - I've also got twin webbers fitted, idling on cold is usually giving it slight throttle (idling around 1000 revs) for approx 20/30 seconds until it is fine to hold a steady idle at ~850 by itself - do you give it throttle on cold idle or start, then leave to warm up by itself? It's something I live with due to lack of choke to change fuel/air mixture when required

Yeh, usually give it about quarter throttle until it starts to warm up then leave it idling with no throttle. If I don't give it a quarter for at least 30-60 seconds it dies. Its during that 30-60 seconds it seems to misfire. Take it its nothing to bother with then?!
