Changed broken cable a couple of weeks ago.

Took the van up to aviemore and the cable slipped out the clamp at the engine housing end twice. Managed alright as long as I wasn't pressing on the pedal too fast/hard. Nightmare going up steep hill when i needed to drop gear as I didn't feel i could push down hard enough to keep the revs up.

The barrel end of the cable seems to be clamped in well enough so I don't know why it keeps slipping. Is there meant to any other gubbins at the barrel end to hold it in place?

Have you got a standard carb?

If so the barrel goes through the arm on the carb and the cable is held in place through that with a grub screw.

If the thread is knocked you'll have to get another.

Mole Grips on the end of the cable will get you home!

In a word No.

The bolt through the arm should have a hole through it with a grub screw. The cable goes through the hole and is held and adjusted by pulling the cable through and tightening the grub screw down.

No pics as the bug is down the lockup, soz but have a search on the web for carb linkages and something will pop up.

Thanks. Part ordered. I had pretty much suspected that was the missing part but struggled to get diagrams online to confirm the setup. Will post again when fitting for further help.

Sadly, this is another in the long list of jobs not done properly during the supposed restoration done by a certain Lancashire company.

If it wasn't for EB forum and Sam at PFP in Newtongrange I'd be struggling. In saying that, the bitterness about being ripped-off has long since passed and I'm enjoying the learning.

If you are still tweaking this is something I have fitted to my twin carbs set up. Its a simple idea and keeps every thing nice and smooth

I bought direct from the states where they are $38, save the hassle but pay a bit more and buy from Prowagon

That prowagen thing looks just the job - might see about getting one of them as well. It's not a website I'd seen before so will have a full browse later tonight.

East Lothian. Had been planning to go to Volksfling either Sat or Sun. Presume you're doing the full weekend? However, my 7yr old son has just got shingles (unusual one that!) so the plans are a bit up in the air for now. Which is better - the sat or the sun, or does it not matter?

And does the grub screw clamp onto the cable or the barrel bit at the end?

ideally it clamps onto the barrel bit at the end, as long as you have the correct cable. However, the correct cable would be for standard set up not twin carbs. So cable it may have to be.

Part arrived but I can't work out how it fits. Tried looking for pics but none. Anyone got a photo of how it should look?
