So, both main bus mags are introducing new monthlies in September for T4/T5 vans. F*****g good!

If I want to see a T5 I'll go to my local Tesco car park.

Will this leave more space in the current mags for more articles featuring proper buses, ie splitties, bays and yes, even wedgies? Or will we still have to put up with them spoiling the party?

I know that the editors of these mags read the forum so perhaps they might comment?

I thought this exact same thing reading Camper and Bus when I saw the T4/T5 mag advert. I just skip past articles with those in.

Completely agree, I want to see air-cooled VW's in independent mags. Suprised I haven't seen everything else with a VW badge appearing in mag issues like caddys, golfs & Tourans etc. Don't get me wrong, I like the VW brand but I don't want to read about all of them.

I think if there is a good story/history or some kind of innovation on a van/ bus then I'll read about it what ever it is .However I agree that if u have a t5 on 22's with a DVD player ps2 and a sink or t4 with rust effect paint then I don't class that as magazine worthy.

similar to others, i'm not always interested in the t4/5 articles ........ mainly because i find most of the interiors a little soul-less and uninspiring. not all of course .... i have seem some nice ones in camper and bus.

however, i'm not fussed about beetles and others either (never bought the normal volksworld mag).

obviously bays i enjoy reading about .... followed by t25s and splits.

Hmm... Difficult one really.

Every year many magazines go bust and with things being tight it seems possible their sales are suffering maybe more than some other businesses.

In view of this they may have to try to boost sales by widening their appeal to a larger audience.

I don't mind innovative buses in the mags, whether T2's, T25's T4's or T5's but most of the later buses seem to be built with no imagination, where's the body drops or cool engine swap/mods. Anyone can buy a t4/t5 and stick some audi alloys on and lower it a bit, throw in some interior, doesn't make for fun reading though. Having said that, I've seen some ropey early vans in the mags too, I guess there's only so many buses to do features on and maintaining a good supply of stories is quite a challenge. I think I could put up with a late bus or 2 if it kept the mags alive though.
(p.s. theres 500bhp+ potential in the 2.5i petrol t4 if you could get a gearbox to cope with the extra torque and power!! I'd like to read about that  )

Agree too, although i got a completely knackered rusty vito on airide with fuschs, its not fake rusted back its just a complete rot box that blasts black smoke out the back like a james bond movie, no bed in back just the floor slept in in many a time direct on the floor,
went to jack the bugger up a while back after buying a cheapo halfords jack, as jackin the blighter up van went up then back down. went inside as moaned to mrs for a bit about how crap the jack was as couldnt hold the weight , went back and found that said jack had actually bust thought the whole vanleaving a three inch wound in the bottom
Now thats a modern van thats got loadsa stories sum funny sum, bad. still not air cooled but as it pisses water outta the rad at an alarming rate i think its trying, still rolling and ultra reliable but a complete shed that uses more oil than deisel, MOT in dec , i reckon its going for an early bath in jan to the vito heaven we will see.

looks can be deceiving before you guys say that looks tidy, the makeshift t4 style bonnet bra thing is hidding lots of tinworm and holes!!
Intergalactic milage and completely fubbare injectors, oh yeah the window is semi electric too wind window down with button, wait then hit the bastard with side of hand and window falls to required position. the list is endless, oh yeah its remapped too and smokes every van, always abused not looked after and it loves me for it, never checked oil just add more when the light comes on

ps for sale 7500GBP( well thats what people would ask for if it were a t4)
anD NO THE AIRIDE IS STAYING WITH ME IF IT DIES AS ARE THE WHEELS SORRY

JTH

I might put it in for an MOT just to see them have to keep refilling the printer for all the fail/ advisories

Are wheel bearings meant to make that screamin noise
Oh yeah dont drive this in the wet with you best shoes on unless you got two carrier bags for your feet

Strange i have leant this to a few friends they always cum back with a smile one their faces and so just goes to show it aint gotta have aSMEV cooker/ inverter/hair dryer leds and 54" rims to have a rockin time, mind i wouldnt mind if the heater worked, hmm 4 vehicles and only one with a heater(thats the mrs one of course)

ok i might negotiate on the price ,px for 23barn or early oval vert with cash my way ;)

i think im going to start a faults and funnies thread bout the above van , got an absolute blinder about the battery that was dead.

Yep I also agree when I saw the add thought about time :D

This year I've also noticed its not just the mags it's the shows 2
There is just so many t4&5 about!
5yrs ago park on field and be surrounded by bays and splits this year & camperjam we were compleatly surrounded by t4s!

So can agree they will be selling a lot more mags having them in I just find I only read half the mag lately!

I take your point Trikky2. However, it seems to me that the new mags are narrowing their appeal, becoming more specialised, by offering 'T4/T5' dedicated content. And in response I would expect that the average T4/5 owner would switch to those mags and not bother with C&B/C&C.

And that should drive the existing mags to have less T4/5 content in them...PLEASE.

Of course, that relies on folks like us buying them, and it becomes a case of swings and roundabouts. Until there is more bay/split/T25 (air cooled?) content and less T4/5, we won't buy. And until we buy, they will keep the T4/5 stuff.

I also hope that these new T4/T5 mags make more room for aircooled stuff in the main mags but dont hold your breath im affraid.

These new mags are aimed at new people to the scene who dont even see any connection with the aircooled history of these vans etc.

Look around you at any show, T4/T5 traders everywhere and owners just running around buying anything branded with a T4/T5.
Then think back about 10 years when the Bus took over at shows from the Bug...................ring any bells.

Im affraid it is more likely to be at the aircooled magazines expence when it comes to sales.

Also as we wont buy the modern mag they will still be able to run an artical in Camper and Bus for example thats already been in the new mag
For me just one great aircooled magazine would really make my day.........anything aircooled just no new beetles, golfs, and builders vans with fancy wheels.

That's a Good point you make Clyde.

Looking back at Volksworld, the mag used to be mainly all about bugs. Then like you say, they introduced more Type2 coverage (think around 2003). Then this became more and more until it spawned C&B.

Obviously I prefer the bay/split stuff in C&B, but to be honest I don't mind the T4/T5 coverage.
