A friend called me and told me that this bus was standing at a scrap metal dealer. When I got there, I couldn't leave without it

I started to work on the missing pieces and it's coming together slowly

Well, I work in Centurion which is a suburb south of Pretoria. I found it less then 5km from my workplace. It cost me R3000 for the bus. It had no engine, beetle rims, bits and pieces missing but still worth it.
I am using bits from my '72 Westy to get this one up and running.

Here is the sub with new mahle pistons, unitech crmo conrods, c/w crank sandseal '043 heads full flow etc.

WTF, bargain of the century...!! Glad it was saved from the crusher..!! :D

Nice score!! I too found my 70 Westy at a scrap yard (actually a pick a parts place). Isn't it amazing what a simple bath will do for these guys? :D Your bus looks fantastic!!

Hi guy's, my gear change was sloppy. It was so bad that I had to fish around to find the gears the whole time. Today I made a replacement front guide bush since you cannot buy them off the shelf over here. I can now actually drive the bus without fear of trying to find gears and holding up traffic.

Took my '72 Westy around the block for the first time today! Huge milestone for me as I bought it as a non runner in July 2009.
Here is a pic with a earlybay sticker in the rear window:
