Anybody got any ideas what these holes were for?
On the drivers side (LHD) rear, on 1968 import.

Ive seen vans that had a dummy air scoop attached here. Might have been the in thing at one time?

If it was used by a school or youth club in the states it could have had a flip out Stop sign like you have on school busses.

The splits had vents here, So maybe at one time it was though to look cool to have a dummy vent here? Ive seen a photo recently of a bay with one fitted, cant find it now.

sort of like this, but a bit more professional, which would be hard

Yep, an external oil cooler.....popular in the states. Mine had one fitted at some time in its life, there was also a small cut in the tinware to allow the hose in.
