Hi all!

Great forum by the way

Hi all

New here :D

Old enough to know better my air cooled addiction started in the 80's with beetles (one pc windows, dechromed, louvered runners and the obligitary guards red paintwork) and the early bug jams. Drifted away mid 90s and eventually went back to restoring 60's Lambrettas and Vespas (cheaper and less room !!) but now decided to come back all out.

Spent the last few years watching the sales market on bugs, ghias and buses but now decided its gonna be a ghia or a camper and the latter makes more sense for family usability.

Kicking myself for what Ive sold and not bought in the last two decades when I see todays prices but c'est la vie.

Hello,

New to the camper scene but have been into my vw's for years. I'm 28 & Currently own a 89' mk2 golf but as we have a new addition to the family we are looking to buy our first camper. I really want an early westy with the small oval rear lights. Thinking of hiring a camper for the weekend to make sure it is for us but I'm sure it will be!

Look forward to meeting & chatting to some of you.

Si

Hi,

Not sure if I'll be booted out of this forum but i have a 72 devon moonraker (although interior was taken out by one of the previous owners). We are getting some work done to her this year (bodywork and interior lining) and will be looking to fit a new interior in at some point.

Went to Dubs in the Forest last weekend and will be spending a few hours at Brighton Breeze this weekend.

Thanks,

Justin

PS live down on the south coast

I did exactly the same thing my first post

Another 1969 Tin Top - Cool, but then again, I am biased :msn4:

Welcome aboard the "Good Ship Earlbay"

My advice - use the search facility as loads and loads of great info already available from historic posts. I use it constantly.

BTW - You're on the best forum - bar none!

HI,

I found myself in air cooled vw scene 6 years ago, when my wife wanted a splitscreen bus. I have old 40's Harley and she wanted
something of her own for hobby. So I searched and found -56 splitscreen ambulance. We made it more like camperbus inside and we have now 5 nice summers with it, driving and camping in vw events. I liked aircool vw;s so much, that now i have my own personal
vw project. Singlecab earlybay -70. It is drivable condition, but needs some work to get it registered back for road use.
Hopefully it is on the road again next summer. It is good time here in Finland to start working in the garage, because it has been below zero Celsius at nights allready.
Maybe I also have to posts questions if I face problems with this earlybay.

Hi All,

New to the forum and to aircooled.

We've recently acquired a fairly straight US '68 tintop, under-dressed in original ivory with a lovely sunburnt hand sprayed brown overcoat. Bit of an impulse buy as we weren't technically ready for it - no garage built as yet.

Though it currently looks awesome, we need to stop the UK weather from making it magically disappear before our very eyes this winter and so it's going in for some relatively minor body repairs and a respray next week but we still can't decide on a colour. Swaying between Neptune blue and Velvet green. Any opinions gratefully received.

Really like the forum, there's so much information to help us on this very steep learning curve.

Will post pics as the resto progresses and no doubt be bugging you with inane questions.

Cheers,

Chris (Nottingham)

Welcome to all the new peeps on here 8) 8) 8) Sounds like a nice array of veeee hickles but on here it`s only make believe until we get some pics ;) ;) Bobster 144 sounds like you have a nice find there but I shan`t comment further until we get them pics up ,,,nudge nudge  Tyg,, sounds like you have found something to keep you occupied this winter but we would love some before and after pics please  Big Bay Bee,, any news yet ? I hope it all went to plan because it usually dosen`t  Plus love the user name too. Jpyfrom <<< what`s that all about ? You can explain that name if you like, l`d love to hear where that came from  As for having a 72 Moonraker, there ain`t much wrong with that 8) I think you`ll find a few on here and they is classed as Early Bay Crossovers and sometimes known as ```Cross Dressers``` but probably the most advanced of the Early Bays, I`ve heard they have weirdo stuff on them like brakes and stuff   Crazed Dubber,,,, DON`T DO IT :? :? Once you drive one,, you`ll be hooked .Then you`re in it for keeps and god help your wallet mate  And Nannucci (there`s another interesting user name) Sounds like you should know betterer because you`ve been bit before, but we all look back with rose tinted goggles on and we all regret things we shouldn`t have sold and stuff we should have bought,, but hind sight is 20 - 20 especially when it`s rose tinted
So big welcome to all, fire away with the questions even if they seem a bit daft, try the search functions as well, chip in when you have a mind to, as you`ve seen,, it`s very friendly on here and that`s how we like it

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,, We`re even friendlier if you post pictures up

Thanks for the warm welcome ozziedog.

First attempt at uploading pics as requested.......

It's all true. Even the maiden voyage breakdown shot

Thanks for pictures Bobster144, that looks to be a little cracker of a van and if I`m not mistaken it has the correct interior mirror for it as well, and they is getting as rare as rockin horse poop. What you got in mind for plans for him then? And has you named him / her yet? The breakdown didn`t look too spectacular (no smoke) so I guess it was trivial or old age or both

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, See!!! that`s how ya do it

Welcome to the forum....Neptune blue for me....it just kinda sums everything up that earlys are about if you know what i mean ;)

ozziedogs request:
Here is my singlecab how it is now . The startpoint of project.
Very minor rust issues top and bottom, but paint is,,,different. Homemade sort of camouflage spraycanjob top of light green.

Hi All,

Just put a deposit on my first ever VW last wk. It's a california import deluxe bus.....believe its a 1971 from decoding the VIN. DVLA shoudl be registering it as I type!

Seems to be completely original and bought it from a VW specialist in my hometown Scarborough. I've tried added a photo but get the message "sorry the board attachement quote has been reached"? If anyone knows how to fix that I'll upload )

Well be back with a raft of questions very soon I'm sure. First job is for it to meet some
Waxoyl.

Hi there `Shoddy`, at the top right hand corner is a symbol,, ?FAQ, this will tell you how to do most anything on here including posting up pictures, it`s fairly easy my friend, and a rather large welcome to you as well.
`tyg` I think you were teasing me, as that looks a belter of a project, is it a lefty or a righty as I can`t quite make it out, and that is a rather unusual paint job (says the bloke with leopard skin bumper)

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,, Chat to Alex if you need stuff,, he`s top banana that bloke
