Can anyone advise me on the law for number plates

I'm due to pick up a westy over the next few days thats imported from California

I would like to leave the cali plates on and then put the uk ones on some place else using the traditional types, maybe hanging off the bumper to one side

is this legal and would they need number plate lights or with it being tax excempt does it have to meet less regulations for the MOT?

i've done a search on google but cant find anything realy.....

front numer plate wll be ok hanging there, as for the rear the mot man may ask tha the rear be iluminated, although i'm sure the law states that if it has lights they must work, if they dont have lights then they dont have to work. although for astetics i'm not sure two numberplates on the back will look all that good!

try it and see ho you think it looks.

if you really want to have 2 sets of numberplates it might ruin the lookyou could have age related plates form the dvla, i think the older style uk ones are legal.
