OK Here we go again... my '69 Early Bay Camper project

.........this time on my '69 Early Bay!

Made a start this weekend and this time I completely moved away from the theme of my old Split Screen interior and after almost a year of searching for 'the right' material I found some vintage surf/beach themed stuff.... See what you think.

OK so had a long break from the Camper as I have been flitting between here and the States with my business.... but as the bus is with Stew over at VW Surgery now being reassembled, livelier engine fitted and MOT'd I thought I better get my 'arris in gear and get my interior panels underway again....

Here are the door cards.....

Just need to make the incisions and pull back some material to allow the door handle, opener and window winder to function.

Here is the reverse prior to trimming and tidying up.. (YES yes I know nobody sees it but I WILL know its there!)

The ENGINE is also in now and mated up to the glass-pack sounds freaking awesome!!!!

Heres the spec....
1641 Type 1 engine, and 34 ict's
New case,
New crank,
New heads,
Lightened fly wheel,
Equaliser front pulley,
110 cam shaft

HOPING its going to be completed by June at the latest.... so I will be hopefully launching it at BUG JAM!

SO........ Not had an update in a long while so here it is....

I PICKED IT UP YESTERDAY AND ITS MOT'd, LEGAL AND LICENSED AND SEMI RE-ASSEMBLED and now currently sitting in my garage!!!!!!!

Engine is running SWEEEEEETTTTTT (thanks Stew at VW Surgery) and the Zorst sounds loud and proud and she really motors along!

I have also been finishing off my custom interior panels with the vintage surf theme.

SO I HAVE 8 TINY WEEKS to complete the vast majority of it if I am to be on track with launching it at BUG JAM..... so all weekend it will be sound deadening, insulating and carpeting throughout..... then the custom interior units are to be built and then its just finishing.... sounds, odds and sods and replaced brightwork here and there..... CANT WAIT.

Ragtop all sorted..... SWEEEEEET 6ft sunroof.

The sound deadening - B&Q Bitumen Flashing Tape.... does an awesome job and the doors shut and sound like an Audi now!

Had a bit of a break from this thread so please excuse the jump to "almost finished" as we've been rather busy on the bus!

AS many of you know, I wanted to get it finished in time for Bug Jam and I nearly made that date, however it was about 90% finished and so I still took it.

My good friend Marc Firkins of Firks-Works has made me a bespoke set of cabinets which we discussed and came up with..... it consists of two curved opening cabinets, one with a stove and the other the sink and it accentuates the walk-thru interior... JUST what I was looking for. The third cabinet, which is yet to appear in the pics goes at the far end of the R&R bed and runs right the way to the back. It will have an oak top on a piano hinge and will be a storage cabinet. Then there is a similar gloss panel to go on the front of the bed frame and this will hold the speakers.

Anyway... some pictures of it as it currently stands......
