Ive seen a few posts saying how hard overriders are to find and I would quite like some on my bus soooo, while im at it I thought I would see how much demand there is for them..

A note about the 'amount' you would pay.
If enough people actually want overriders but they dont want to pay over a tenner for them but it costs me 80 quid to make, its obviously not going to happen.

is this price selection ^^^^^^^for one ,a pair,or a set of four.
with rubbers and bolts ,or just for the bare metal overider :)
Only asking so you get a correct pole/vote

I would pay good money for decent replicas.
Would want 2 front/2 rear

If there was enough interest, i could get them done with everything, rubber, bolts etc 8)

I like them but i would ive fitted them. I dont think this current trend of repo ing everything is a good idea. Panels and running gear yes but if those hard to find or rare parts are all repod then everyone will have everything fitted and all buses will look the same. There is still plenty of OG stuff out their if you just want to look.

SIR Nail and Head there :D There is a reason Im called Gadget Boy cus I like all the rare toys . half the fun for me anyway is searching them out . Now you've all seen the Gadget bus and i always said my next bus would have overiders on it because me mate Peachie has em and im not taking my deluxe trim off  .So on my panel it has .

I rest my case with MWS BRMs, Gas Burners and Sprintstars

Dare to be different and Dont have overiders Chrome ur bumpers fit stainless ones Or dare i say it paint them nicely

Hmm mixed views here. Seems the people that have them have spent a long time and good money searching them out and now (selfishly :p ) dont want to see them flooded in the market.. Which is understandable.

Not sure about the 'everyones bus will look the same' comment. They are all VW Transporters, we can only make them look different to a certian extent. Like one of my other interests is american cars, on another forum people have an american car but lots of different models of cars and trucks. But here, we all have the same model so they arent going to look massivly different.

You could almost get to the point where you say, dont lower your bus - everyone does it, dont have a rat look - everyone has rat look etc.. But its just whatever people want to do..

When I had a wedge, people went through a phase of wanting square 'german look' headlamps at the front, everyone had them, but they were one of the few 'stock' options you could have changed - as in, from the factory, as an option. Ofcourse, from there people did whatever they wanted to the van, different interiors, paint jobs, lowered, raised, engines etc etc. So theres still plenty different.

Its a long way off actually happening if I did get some made, I still need to find some myself to acuratly copy them.

But thanks for the opinions guys 8)

can overiders be used in conjunction with deluxe bumper trims or is it an either or situation?
repro stuff is all good if it is made of decent metal. at the end of the day the more metal between my knees and whatever i have the misfortune to hit the better. repro stuff i used to get for my old vespa would be rusty even before you got it out of the packet. and as for those fibre glass repro bumpers that you can get  . i wouldnt fancy testing those in a crash.

Sorry mate its either deluxe trim OR overriders as they mount through the same holes. Some people in correctly mount their overriders close into the centre of the bumper in which case you could have both i suppose but your bumpers would look very busy.

SPOT ON, exactly the reason I want them rather than just looking cool..

But yes, I would be looking at treated metal as you dont need yet another thing to put on your bus and have to treat with waxoil etc

I think youll find overriders are to protect your bumpers in a slight nudge rather than your legs etc in a crash.
Flat fronted buses have most probley the worst crash protection of any thing on the road except possibly a bike. If safety is a major concern than maybe your need to re think your method of transport.

...........have seen both the overriders were trimed out a little to allow them to sit over the deluxe trim..........I bought a set of splitty rear US spec deluxe trim with the idea of fitting both....

Something is better than nothing.

Id agree if that something was structural, but overriders arent. They are bumper protectors and nothing more. They do look good but if your not fitting for looks i think id save my money.

Its more metal on the bumper, thats good enough for me.

And they look good :p

Having removed at least 30 or 35 sets of these overriders I will say they almost always damage the nose skin above the bumper on the nose if there has been any hit. I think the square bumper ones fare a bit better based on my experience, but you can't beat the look!

De-lux trim is reproduced, but not everyone has it. If it wasn't a De-lux van when it left the factory it never will be. But each to there own, one thing i love about old VW's is every one has a different look from the next.
I say if you can fund your obsession by making and selling something, Go for it! Good luck Cunning Plan
