Driving back from Tenby yesterday, my van developed a very strange problem, every now and then the clutch pedal would move quite violently, it would move up and down making quite loud banging and clattering noise, if I rested my foot on it slightly it would disappear, after a while I could hem remove my foot and it would be fine for a good while, Any ideas what this could be? I'm guessing its clutch related. Other than that the van drove fine.

Thanks

Mark

Have a look at your clutch arm. I had these syptoms before catastrophic failure :x
The circlip that holds the clutch arm in place had come loose allowing the arm / shaft to move / rub on the input shaft mangling the release bearing that then destroyed the spring plate
1 new clutch, release bearing, arm / shaft and all was good again but i would definately get under the van to see if there is any sideways movement on the clutch arm

ok thanks, I'll give that a go, it has been sugested that the engine may be loose!!

If the engine bolts are tight I would drop the engine anyway. It's likely that the release bearing is breaking up. Get the lump out before any real damage occurs. It's only a couple of hours work to drop it and put it back, and then you will know the problem is sorted.

Well I think i have found the problem, I have removed the engine and found a snpped clutch release baring clip.

Can any one reccomend where i can get good quality replacements or are they all basicaly the same?

this is what I need

When i had issues with my clutch, i bought up-rated springs, got mine from Kingfisher Kustoms in Birmingham but i'm sure most companies will sell them

well the next question is, should I upgrade to the newer type bearing?

Its not just the bearing kit though, if you decide to upgrade to this then you will also need a complete new clutch.
