hi guys, wondered if you could help.

i know its a porsche engine, but hoping that those with engine/electrical knowledge may be able to help

after wiring my Porsche engine up i crank the engine over with the ignition and the engine appears to fire up, but when i stop cranking the engine just dies.

i thought it was the fuel pump relay not staying latched but this is not the case.

the engine was running 14 months ago when in nellys bus and have no reason to think that mechanically there would be something wrong. i have been turning oer the engine once a week since i've had it.

therefore i thought it may be down to my wiring, but i cont see anythign i have done wrong.

any ideas?

Not shure about your particular engine but quite a few had ballast resistor coil ignition. Its basically a 9 volt coil and theres a resistor to drop the 12v down to 9v for normal running. When you turn the engine on the starter it supplies 12 volts to the coil for starting. If the resistor (or resistance wiring) is faulty it will give the symptoms you describe eg. it will start but stop as soon as you release the key.

if you refer to your other thread thats what 15a is its the coil after the ballast resistor whereas you have paralleled it off for a handy 12v supply....i.e. after the momentary switch which is where I think your taking your feed from get that right and you should clear this issue

i dont want to sound stupid but if i dont have this connection because i'm using a vw start motor.

should simply connecting this to an ignition live voltage source fix the problem...because i have done this and i still have the same problem
