Has anyone ever experienced any problems with slam tires up front ?
I had a bit of burning rubber smell on the way back from the beach yesterday & it looks like the N/S tire has been a couple of psi under inflated and been reeking a bit if black around rubber around the rim.

Now I'm totally para and considering putting bigger tires on the front before my 700 mile round trip to camper jam

Chances are you were overloading the front tyres anyway.

What's the load rating on yours? :)

Max permissable front axle weight is 1010kg... so should be more than 505kg per tyre.

Personally, I won't use anything that isn't a suitably rated C (light commercial) tyre. But there have been plenty of discussions on this before, other people are happy to use slam tyres.

:)

well after the burning rubber I'm Deffo changing up. Rather have a bigger tire than a motorway blow out :msn4:

I recently swapped from continental 175/55/15 84 load rating to continental Vanco 185/60/15s 92/94 and the difference is huge. Now turns around corners rather than understeers. I noticed a lot of rubber dust in the old tyres as well.

Whilst I completely understand people wanting to run Comercial tyers and I guess in reality we should as that is what is advised, I have not had any issues with 165/55/15 Nankang AS1 tyres, I have just returned from a fully loaded Cornwall trip no issues.

If you decide to stay with the lower profile tyre I would splash out and go for a Bridgestone potenza.
