Can I ask where you got the lighting please? Is it the Ikea modular stuff?

It's the self adhesive led strip that comes in set lengths or on a roll. I got it from b&q. The mains plug goes to a 12v transformer so I took that off and wired it into the interior lighting. you can get plain white or colour changing and infra red remote controlled ones.

ok, so were getting there the engine has been out and fiddled with, a bit of tidying has gone on, theres still some wiring to do and and a few things to put back together, but i might actually get some use out of the bloody thing soon,
so pictures can do the talking now.
the engine got a few new bits and a clean up.
the engine bay got the same treatment.
and the firetec finally got fitted.
petrol tank got a good clean and paint, plus all new hoses and filler neck.
cleaned the mess up from a leaky flywheel oil seal, and replaced the clutch, bearings and CV boots
put the engine back in complete with its shiny new vintage speed exhaust. (engineering porn of the highest level)
got the cab bunk fitted
and Delilah's are nearly finished on their amazing job with my door cards and seat cushions.
got to do the front wheel bearings, notch the spring plates so i can actually get the wheels off, fit my new throttle linkage
and a few other bits, but its getting there.

I like the perforated S/S metal - I think i shall nick that idea
well I arrived home today to find a pallet hiding on the drive behind the beetle. after a little rearranging, and sticker applying I got to see what those lovely people at Delilah's have spent many hours making.
and i must say, I'm very, very, very happy.

well, today i decided to get some of the new door cards in place.
and chucked in a couple of cushions, because why not.

tomorrow's task is to hunt round a few carpet shops and see if anywhere has some smallish offcuts that i can use without having to pay a small fortune.

well today i got the rest of the door cards in, with a little assistance from my shy head mechanic.
and i found some carpet and cut it to fit. I'll see about getting it stuck down somehow when I've got the last couple of dirty jobs out of the way.
I also had a spare walkthrough carpet and some left over metal trim from tiling my kitchen, which both went to good use.
tomorrow the wheel bearings should be getting replaced.
Everything is moving along quite quickly now, since i finally had enough of my job, I will temporarily join the realms of the unemployed in September, so i intend to make the most of it.

this morning i took the front end apart to hunt the source of an annoying rubbing noise. once id found that i decided to do some driving, so i went to Scarborough.
the clutch started slipping on the way there so i did a bit of roadside adjustment, but now it seems that the brand new flywheel oil seal has let rather a lot of oil through onto the clutch. so it looks like the engine is coming back out... :suicide:

well the engine came out, got a clean and a new flywheel oil seal and O-ring and off we went to field of dreams.
the trip there involved a short stop to deposit almost all my oil in a car park followed by a quick top up and getting to site and setting up camp as quickly as possible.
after all the fiddling with the engine it seems there is something far more serious than just bad seals...
So on the way back i filled up the oil and pretended there was nothing wrong.
I wonder if i can find a good solid 1641 long block in time for dubs in't dales.

cheers. its life, I'm just a bit annoyed that after 8 years my first real outing in the van was such a hassle and is going to push my being able to enjoy it properly even further back.gninnam said:

erm... I've been so busy this past 11 months, I still haven't got around to fixing whatever is broken and causing the oil leak. Though i am hoping to get it sorted and get to field of dreams again, if i can afford tickets :roll:
I finally got the engine out, everything cleaned up and a new flywheel oil seal and associated gubbins back in.
A friend came round to help get everything back together tonight, so its fingers crossed that everything works again.
I also found time to make a new gear knob recently, the eyes are blue LEDs wired to an ignition live.
