Hey,
just got myself my first van and trying to get the brakes sorted on it, bought some parts but the wrong brakeplates were sent,

JK said they dont stock the early bay replacement and everywhere else stock something which has a slightly different looking star adjuster section, anyone know wheres best to buy them from ?

Hi, welcome to the forum!

I'm guessing that your bus/van is an "early" early bay - a 68 to 70 model year (edit - I now see it is a 70!) and you need the brake back plates that have the straight star adjusters (not angled which are the 71 to 79 later type).

There is now a repro quality replacement available (I think made by BBT) Custom and Commercial sell them and they're 60 quid a piece -

http://www.customandcommercial.com/vw-baywindow/baywindow_brakes--and--wheel_parts/rear_brake_shoes_backing_plates--and--wheel_parts/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think VW Heritage may sell them as well but couldn't check their website as I typed this as it was playing up

Schofields also sell them - http://www.alanhschofield.com/ourparts/prod_3744480-Rear-Backing-Plate-Left-6870-211609439D.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have a pair of NOS ones for sale (shameless plug!) but they are admittedly expensive at £200 the pair delivered but I am only looking to get back what I paid (they were sold to me by someone in the US as 71 model year ones)

Hope this helps,

Andy

Yes we stock them:

The website seems to be not working for internet explore but works fine in Chrome or Firefox, IT are working on it now!

Thats great thanks to both of you, i had seen the repro ones but wasnt 100% sure of them because the star adjuster section looks to be square rather than the original round barrell shape. Didnt even realise earlybay got a discount i have just joined the forum.

Thanks again

Thanks will do Alex, got my brake plates ordered from you guys the other day :D , managed to get everything removed alrite, other than the usual hardened on rust not too many issues. Although I'm probably being thick here but I can't see an obvious way of getting the handbrake cable out of the backplate ? :lol:
