Hi all.

Is there a difference between a 72 crossover rear bumper and a earlybay ended rear bumper, i just tried to fit one and it is too short, it would press into the sides if i try and press it any harder plus the brackets do not line up with the bumper holes?

This is what came off, i don't know if the ends are different as we scrapped the ends.

not an expert by any means but i thought the whole bumper/mounts wer 1 yesr only on the 72. I have read somewhere if you fit the earlier one it needs to be bent out a bit on the curves to clear the rear corners. Im in a worse position as mine seems to have a 'factory' tow bar attached to it as well.

Im sure someone who know the truth will be along soon :D

As you aware already the rear corners are different but also the rear chassis sections wider and that pushes the bumper irons out but then they produced 1 year only irons to top it off so either source the correct bumper or fill and drill then a slight rework of the ends and alls good.....

looks like you did the reverse of what I did if I understand correctly?
72s had a wider chassis so the mount holes are in a different place.
I bought a 72 bumper which doesn't fit my 70 tho I've since got hold of the right one.
I've still got the finished 72 rear if you're interested? Am ebaying it next week as I want rid of it.

had a slash cut bumper on mine cut the mounting plates of,split fixings?,went to try it on brackets and to narrow   so the corners curved in at ends, got trolley jack and length of scaffold pipe(my rear hub undoer)and jacked it out ,fits a treat drilled holes and had to make spacers to fit under lower edge of brackets to keep bumper level but it looks soooooooooo much better.
