yeah thats what i thought but the shafts the easiest part to manufacture from scratch and be sure of its integrity...

So how are there spindles manufactured? there not welded, so cast? so why do they want the old spindles at that price?

I think they flip the spindels around left is right and right is left like this:

In holland this trick was done bij "slamedpannel" they don't exist anymore but one off those guy's works with "kieft & Klok" and T2D is dealer of K&K ? ? ? ?

Has anyone gone ahead with the Red9 kit yet?
I went to re-visit the local garage that quoted me £450 for lowering with adjusters (they had bought my RnR hinges so i agreed to deliver as i could then have a look round and be nosey  ) and i got talking to them about lowering the bay again, they had a look at my front beam and said it all looked solid enough to lower on adjusters but when i asked them about the red9 coilovers they weren't overly impressed. They agreed that in principle it was a good idea but should only really be fitted to single / crew cabs as they dont have the weight of a camping interior sat inside.
This sort of convinced the wife that adjusters are the safer way to go but i'm still not sure.
£450 with adjusters and turning rear spline
OR
£365 with Red9 coilovers and i turn the rear spline myself.

funny old world, after my adjusters failed for the second time and the inner arches landed on the tyres i decided red9 was the way to go.

Froggy, the offer still stands if you want to come over and have a gander at the front suspension

I've heard of adjusters failing a few times but not the Red9 kit, granted there are a lot more vehicles running adjusters and with
no control over the fitment etc. this is always going to be the case, but I believe the Red9 kit has been road tested sufficiently.

The more I read the better the Red9 kit sounds, but just so I get this straight what's the general concensus of opinion for a smooth safe ride:

Dropped/welded spindles

or

Red9 coilover kit

Cheers for your thoughts.

Dave

I'd say not one verses another but the two combined, the red 9 for a good ride and dropped spindles for balljoint travel. I wonder if Red9 can do a 0 - 2" if you wanted to fit these new 3.5" dropped spindles to get a total drop between 3.5 - 5.5"?

last year we regulary had the bus fully loaded, including 2 bikes hung the back, awning and other camping related tat,all our clothes etc, kayak inside the bus and the two of us with no prolems at all. if you went for the bump stops too,you would have that extra peace of mind.

Thats what i've got fella, 2.5" dropped spindles, and 2/4" red9 so thats makes a 4.5/6.5" variable drop.

I'm actually suprised red 9 havent gone and develloped beefed up lower trailing arms specifically to counter the bad press their design seems to acrue, there gear on line and at the shows does look the bollox but it does scare me even though I have not heard anything bad then again I wont have adjusters either..... :? ah well stock height it is....

Hi guys I think I'm going to go Red9 route, but could somebody tell me how you fit there bumpstops.

Cheers

Dave.

Cut/grind/chew the old ones off and bolt the new through the hole.

Still unsure what to do, might just stay at stock height!

Talking to the garage that quoted me for adjusters scared the wife about the red9 kit but then i dont want to effect the ride quality that some people say they have lost by going with adjusters.
Still not sure if any one does dropped spindles for a '71 (1 year only set up) so thinking its maybe better to spend my hard earned cash on something else!

As far as I'm aware your 71 only spec only affects your brakes and the spindles are the same as following years,

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :D

Hope this is the case, as i was under the impression that they were different, if not then i can upgrade the front brakes / discs to the later type at the same time as maybe looking at dropped spindles.
So many decisions, my head hurts (and unfortunately its not from beer) :?

71/2 differed in the caliper mountings....but to fit the later brakes a spacer can be fitted to 71 spindles or just fit the later spindles with the latter brakes a lot cheaper route....

I fitted the different caliper mounts and the later (cheaper!) brake calipers just thought that i would eventually fit the later (cheaper) discs.
Been playing under the van (while at work, why work when you can play  ) and to be honest after looking at the way the bottom shock mount is made it would take some serious amount of punishment to break it off (unless it had any fatigue).
Its got me thinking again (twice in 1 day) that maybe the red9 kit will be the kit for me.
If i could only get up the courage to order it

Bloody hell just go for it Froggy!
Had planned to until i read about the wagonwest group buy on dropped spindles
Thinking that once i've dropped it then it will stay at that height and as i was only looking at the 2-4" kit then maybe a 2.5" permanent drop might be easier

I think you should go for dropped spindles for the ultimate ride, it will leave your suspension all stock working how it does now, which means the best ride quality as all the geometry is at factory settings. Are you saying you want a maximum of 2 - 2.5" drop on the front?
