Retro hi fi is well cool too

Not quite hi fi, but i have one of these in the living room, working order, lovely mellow tone, though volume a little crackly, though it is 60 years old!

A great thread, and here's my contribution! :D

My place was built in the early 70s, and is a bit of a time warp, with some original fixtures and fittings from the period, such as the kitchen, which was perfect for continuing the retro theme!

IMG_9021-1.jpg

Every kitchen has to have a trusty Kenwood! This is identical to the one my mum had. All these years later, I still haven't forgiven her for car booting it!

IMG_1967-1.jpg

Then we have the tumble dryer. Now I have a bit of a thing for tracking down exact makes and models of the things I was brought up with (such as my bus of course :D ), and I was lucky enough to find this 1960 machine (fully working of course!).
The two tins on the top (Oxo and tea leaves) were bought new by my parents, and survived in the garage, for storing screws etc in.

IMG_0606-1.jpg

Then there's the old BT phone. When my parents changed theirs in the 80s, to more modern versions, BT (or the GPO or whoever they were back then) took the old ones back, as they were their property. :( This phone is identical, even with our old phone number put on it! The case and handset were new old stock (with refurbed innards).

IMG_2388.jpg

Ok, next up, the TV. Our original Sony was almost identical to the one below (it's big brother if you like). I've always liked these old Sonys, and I have two of them. I bought this from its first owner, and she bought it new, from Rumbelows (remember them? :D ) in August 1973!
It came with its original earplug (unused) and instruction book.

IMG_2108.jpg

Another original fitting at my place: The gas fire in the livingroom.

IMG_2391.jpg

Then there is my record player. I've always loved the old portable ones. I own very little vinyl, so I will have to start collecting!

IMG_2393.jpg

My retro theme continues into the garden!
Again, this c1967 Qualcast lawn mower is the identical make and model to the one I grew up with. The original was replaced by a horrible modern Flymo. Ok, it was lighter and easier to use, but I loved 'driving' the Qualcast, and its engine was a lovely 'chugger', as opposed to the high reving and noisy Flymo. I remember the Qualcast going in the skip too! I guess my parents couldn't keep everything, as much as I wanted them to!
This particular machine had pretty much been in the same family from new when I got it. It came with the petrol can that had always been used with it, and also some of the original paperwork and its manuals!

A few bits and pieces from around the house, thought I'd post. Mostly treasure from eBay, car boot sales etc. Especially love our kitchenette cupboard, which I spent ages cleaning sanding and painting!

The glasses set... have a few of these patterened types, designed by Hardie Williamson when he worked for Ravenhead. Back in the day when gay meant something completely different to what it does now ;-D

My whole house is mostly filled with stuff from the 60's and 70's bar a few modern bits from the 80's plus stuff I inherited some of which is a lot older still.

This is not part of any coordinated plan or fashion statement. Its simply the result of being an old git.

I have a few pieces......

I have four of these 1969 Giancarlo Pirretti chairs made by Castelli. These are still used in a number of public buildings in Italy.

I just bought these four Schrieber chairs. The table is of unknown origin and could do with a re-furb. Bargain £5 tall sideboard and £5 long sideboard in the background.

Pair of red picnic trays in their original box.

There are other bits of furniture which are buried at the moment, so no photos yet. Just waiting to get a 60's bungalow or build a house to create the dream modernist pad :)

Those chairs are gorgeous! You obviously have great taste ;) and I spy... a Graham Carter print on your wall. We've got the one of the Yetis running from the forest. Love his stuff. Hey, and you're practically a neighbour, we are in Tunny Wells. :D

Yeah I love those chairs. Bought them on Brick Lane 12 years ago. I took photos of all the ones I saw in Italy when we went there last year. The locals thought I was mental!

My missus loves Graham Carter's art. We have two prints at the moment, but will hopefully get some more in the future. Its dangerous having Art Republic in Brighton!

Hopefully will catch up at a few shows this year :)
