Hi All,

Looking for some advice on which brand parts to get for servicing my bus. It's a bog standard 1600 TP 71 Deluxe.

So looking for plugs, HT leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, condensor. Got some morris oil already and planning to check valve clearances and replace gaskets along with doing oil change etc.

I planned just to check out one of the main VW part companies and order all the Bosch stuff, but can't seem to find any doing Bosch HT leads. Are they out there or are there other brands that are just as reputable?

Cheers
Craig

Hi,

I'm not sure its worth spending the money on Bosch parts, they are all made in mexico/Brazil etc now anyway so the quality is on par with everyone else.

I bought these leads from eBay, http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=121089877819&alt=web" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , which appear to be better quality than any other Bosch/Beru or other silicone leads I have bought for the bus before..

Get the dizzy cap and rotor from eBay, usually much cheaper.
Same applies for plugs, NGK are probably some of the best now; I've heard of people getting reduced life from the Bosch plugs. If possible, fit the unshrouded electrode plugs, I've forgotten the slight change in letters for the Part No. But check google; the electrode stays cleaner on idle with these and it helps produce a more efficient burn apparently.

Most condensers available don't last as long as the use to from what I've gathered, but I've not changed one yet so I can't confirm. Just buy the cheap Lucas or similar ones off eBay, they are all similar.

Machine 7 sell Bosch Grey Plug leads and I use them all the time, not cheap but a lot better quality than the cheap nasty ones
