I agree that it does look quite elegant. It should have been a standard factory-fitted instrument, in my opinion!
 
Looking thro this posting I came across a gauge setup similar to my 1968 camper.

The image is the one posted by Dirty Harry in which he describes it as "Here is my setup, tacho is on the steering column."

There is a red light / switch just visible to the top right side of the steering wheel rim.
The top right corner of the instrument panel, near the clock and to the left of the heater control sliders.

My question is: what does this light /switch do or should do?
