Having spent easter taking out the furniture laying a new laminate floor, just been out for our first family drive in the bus ... when we got back there was smoke ... presume burning oil ... coming out of the rear vents on the back quarters of the van ... not huge clouds but more than enough to notice. :(

Anyone any ideas   I can do most mechanical things just that new to the VW engine and problems.

I also have a flat spot which makes pulling away a little slow ... any ideas ... it was supposed to have been serviced ... twin Kadrons I think ... at least that is what it says on the receipts I got with the bus.

Hello,

Is there any spilt oil anywhere that could be burning off and coming out of the vents? Does the engine seem too hot (check dipstick - very warm = ok, too hot to touch = too hot).

Is your flat spot all of the time or when its cold/warm? I don't know much about the later engines but I imagine the principles work with both types. So do you have a stock distributor?

Hi!

The smoking may well be oil on the exhaust, possible from the rocker covers or leaking from the pushrod tubes, have a look at these. Maybe if it's been service they have spilt a bit too much oil, and this is burning off? Also firstly check the oil level, if it's overfull it could blow past seals.

As for the flat spot, could be mixture of carbs out of balance?

Someone will be along with other suggestion shortly n doubt..........

Cheers!

Alistair
