My Kadrons idle straight away... but very slowly (probably under 300rpm idling to start with). And they take a while to get warm, before the engine sounds 'right'.

I get 40mpg out of them with a very light foot though (in a bug), so I'm not complaining too much :D

However, I wish they would drive like a modern car / stock carb does straight from cold.

Go EFI if you want to just jump in & go.

It is cheaper than you think if you do it yourself.

.........gave the bus a quick squirt of water dispersant 40 days....and after a couple of goes she started straight up...having been parked out on the road for 5 weeks (we have even had frost down here) without being run kept my foot on the gas for about 2-3 mins till she idled beautifully.......no choke and she settles down like a gud'un...

.....those solex 40's...so sh*t who'd fit solex their car.....oh gosh VW did...from the 1950's through to the 1980's...must be sh*t then.......

Solex 35's sound quite small to me, if the standard 32 is the throttle body in mm...then empi now do 44's.........and kadrons are 40mm.......

Weber/Dell'is are I am very sure better carbs  .....Kadrons £200...Dellis £400.....twice as good  .......ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha....please stop my sides hurt.....

PS I owned an Italian car (Alfa) ...best i have ever had, to drive, £18.5k to £3.5 in 3yrs tho........think Dell'is are owned by Fiat....just off to buy a Skoda...

I 'think' the newly available Solexes are reproductions made under licence, like 'Empi' parts, hence the variance in quality.

Glad to hear you have a good pair that are working for you. :)

...yep got an 'old' set of solex's 8) ..........just the same as standard pic32's repro/current VW stuff not always as good as old  ......

......didn't some dodgy east european company knock out a few weber/dell'is at some point in history  ....

......drove for one hr...lost most feeling in feet and hands..........heating next me thinks

I'm running 36 DRLA's on my 1600. Paid £120 for them about 3 years ago but they needed drilling and tapping for VW air filters, plus some 55 idle jets as they were still on alfa jets.
The manifolds, filters and linkage cost about £160, the jets were about £12.
I use a fuel filter with tapered ends to convert to the 8mm fuel pipe.
At the same time you have to consider electronic ignition, 4into1 header and backbox, uprated coil and leads to get the best out of the them.
Never had a rolling road set up or paid much attention to MPG but it pulls a lot better!

It's a slippery slope...first you upgrade the carbs then you start thinking about building a 1776!

Now how cool would that be? I friend of mine runs megasquirt on his Zetec CVH Turbo Escort.

How easy would a stock ish set up be? I had a little browse about, most folk use then on highly tuned motors it seems...

I am still collecting the parts to do mine.

A mate built the box for my & the relay board. He is ordering me the sensors I need.

I will have to fabricate the rest out of odd bits.

I reckon you could do it for the similar price of a brand new 40's kit.

Nowt wrong with Kadrons they are solex after all and you can use a 009 no problem with twin carbs its on singles you will get a flat spot.

Ive got two complete sets of kadrons for sale and an origional set of 34 ICTs wiith a new hex linkage if anyones after any all taken off 1600s or 1641s

You might want to read this about Kadrons before splashing your cash.

According to this, you will need a vacuum dizzy. It says some of the jets might be marked incorrectly, well, that's a great help then.
