At the moment I hae a pretty old vintage radio in the front dash. Looks lovely but doesn't play a single song though

In the back it is set up to take one of the 'slide in' radios, but I haven't got one...

So after a couple of months of singing to the van, I don't actually want a ghetto blaster sound system, but I would like an old retro radio and/or slide in replacement for the rear

Does anyone know where I can source these from cheaply?

Tadpole Radios can put a modern set up inside your vintage radio body - mp3 / Bluetooth compatible etc

Hey there, good thread.

I've got 6" components in the front doors with the tweets in the dash tray, 6" coaxial in the overhead locker, two amps and a cap under the buddy seat and two 12" subs in the back of the buddy seats... you can't see any of it.

Will get some pics up for you in a bit.

Pics as promised...

Dynamat going in (might have got a bit carried away!):

Where's the cheapest and best place to buy dyno mat? Cheers

Definitely get the extreme. Also the bulk packs work out cheapest, no point nannying about with the door packs when you have a whole bus to do!

If you want to cover every panel including the whole floor area and inside/outside of the cab doors you will need three.

haha...yep. But you don't have to cover every panel. You can cut into tiles and cover about one third of each panel, will still make a big difference to the resonation...also saves weight. Then you can use foam like this:

Check out this website for some good info on sound proofing... http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

not wishing to drain my LB and wanting best (secondary) sound system to be mounted in the rear (in my westy wardrobe  - pics later) WITHOUT big amps / subs and the like.

I ended up with the below.
The Alpine powerpack is a amp the plugs direct to the headunit loom so NO cable routing etc etc etc
10 mins and done.
headunits are usually 18-25watts RMS per channel
The powerpack makes 50 watts rms x4 channels - just make sure your cars power supply to the stereo loom is 15amp.

I mated this to a doubledin alpine cde 233 head unit and ONLY 2 speakers (dont skimp on these) focal 165's coax rated 60watts rms mounted in the westy wardrobe, curtains act like dynamat   and i have to admit the sound is kicking.
crystal clear and as good as my £1200 system in the Golf (that i love).

thats my two penneth worth anyways....

a musical potts

I've put 6x9s in the bottom of my doors and 2 subs under the rock n roll bed 2 subs is toooooo much tho just go for one 10" not 2 lol

I can vouch for Focal speakers, mine have outlasted several vehicles and have been played LOUD.
A while before I get round to sounds but they'll be going in the van for sure, along with a nice Alpine h.u. with 60w/ch.

Cheers guys, especially Humphrey

You're welcome! I could yaf about this stuff all day. Will try and get some more pics of the subs, speakers and wot not for you this weekend...sorry been epic busy at work! 8)

I can vouch one 10" sub is good enough.
Also discovered I can fit an additional leisure battery same side as main battery partly above the wheel arch if I make a frame for it. Having a firewall free Early has it's advantages. :)
