Hi there I've just changed my starter motor as mine was strugglin to turn over but turned every time I turned the key but now the new starter seems to stick quite a lot and won't turn over every time I turn the key just wondering if it's a faulty starter or something else as is under thanks Sam
;)

When you say it sticks - do you hear the solenoid click but it doesent turn over or is it silent, do the lights dim when the key is turned - more info increases the chances of trying to diagnose faults remotely at the end of a keyboard

Sorry :(
When I say it sticks I mean the dash lights dimm and it clicks but doesn't turn over
Thanks Sam :)

did you change the bush in he bellhouseing of the gearbox ? new starters sometimes come with a new one supplied ?
also sounds daft bit it is the correct length one ? And as above check ya connections and earths , had starters play up purely beacuse of crappy earths ?

If the lights dim then - as already suggested - you may have a dodgy starter bush or you may have the wrong starter.

If the lights go out altogether then its a bad connection, prob battery terminal but also possibly earth straps.

Yeah the lights dim down but don't go off some times it feels like the starter moves and the van shudders and then it will start on the next attempt like its stuck and it comes unstuck
If that makes sence
There was a new bush but it wouldn't fit so had to refit the old 1 do u think this could be the problem?
Thanks sam

Certainly sounds like classic bush symptoms to me :)

How did you get the old one out without destroying it?

Yes! :msn4:

I've also had a starter that came with a bush that wouldn't fit. More annoyingly it was zipped to the starter along with a note warning the warrenty would be void if it wasn't fitted. A subtle hint that it might be a good idea to replace it.

When you do, fill it with oil and squash it lightly between your finger and thumb on the ends of the tube until the oil comes through the sides (it's porous). This is the only oil it'll get until your flywheel oil seal starts leaking.
