Hi again i have a starter motor problem
Some times now seems to be getting worse when i turn the key the starter motor just clicks can then keep turning the key and eventually it will turn its only about 2 years old with little use any ideas please

Sounds like the solenoid might be sticking possibly through lack of use - might be worth trying to get some WD40 or similar into it and try and free it off
Also check your battery - if that is low it will struggle to provide the correct current to engage the starter.
Whilst under there have a look at the contacts, give them a clean down if corroded and add a little vaseline to prevent future issues

I had exactly the same problem/symptoms. Bought a new starter motor (as I had previously repaired the old one) but no difference. It turned out to be the wiring. I made up a hot start relay (you can buy a kit from Heritage etc or make up your own for a fraction of the price) and all was good. It was a consequence of 40 year old wiring and a very long run from the starter to the ignition switch.
Some say that you should fix the original wiring and repair any high resistance connections, others say that VW should have fitted a "hot start" relay from the outset...

Had the same myself, turned out to be a loose nut on the threaded connection.

Right i have sprayed wd40 in and tightened all the nuts
Seems to have worked so far but the wires do look a little bit old so will need to change at some point thanks all
