My starter motor doesn't seem to be working and I need some help! It has recently been replaced so I thought all was fine until today when it didn't start. When tunring the key, there is no turning sound, just a very fast klick klick klick klick sound. The petrol guage bounces back and forth and that's it. Any ideas? I was wondering whether this had anything to do with the battery as the one I have could probably do with replacing - if this is a quick fix then I'll be a happy boy, otherwise it's back to the garage to ask them why the starter moptor thety fitted has broken after only a few weeks.

All help appreciated - I'm off to France for a couple of weeks in the van at the end of the month and don;t relish the idea of being push started at every campsite ... neither will the wife! Not going on holiday becasue of this would be mroe thana disappointment.

Fingers crossed!!!!

Sounds like a circuit problem if the needle on the fuel gauge is bouncing about, have you checked the connections to the starter motor to make sure there all still well attached and not corroded?

Can you jump start it from another car? it will help in diagnosing any low current issues or high resistive connections.

the klik sound you dont say wether its from the starter or fuse box area

haven't tried trying to jump start as yet. The klickign sound is coming from the starter motor.

Sounds like a flat battery or very low power left, you usually get that when its near empty of battery. But as Aaron said there could be an elecrical issue there somewhere?

Sounding like a battery on its last legs not enough current to maintain the solenoid and crank....

but try another car on tick over or if you have a good friend another car ignition off and jumper it to yours.....

have you a DVM at hand to check voltages

oh happy days - jump started perfectly ...... now several pounds lighter bu the holiday is back on course - cheers everyone!
