Hi all,
replaced my gearbox recently with one I got off ebay. The seller said he brought it at a show as refurbed but only had the sellers word for it. Anyway I opened it up and it certainly has never seen a refurb, thick black sludge in the bottom and the gaskets all looked original. But I cleaned it out, fitted new seals etc and installed it anyway as I had nothing to lose.
It seems good and doesn't pop out of any gears but there's two things with it. One thing is in third and fourth gear under load it makes a noise which I can only describe it as a whine similar to when you reverse a car quickly.
Also the gear change is very stiff. I noticed when I had the box out the bus I had to pull and push the gear linkage very hard to change gear where as on my old box it was very easy. I did fit a new rear shift rod bush also though so this might need to loosen up a little.
do you think I've brought a dud or am I just paranoid?
