My van currently has a pancake style air filter fitted however last week just as we were setting off on our hols I heard a clunk in the engine compartment and it has fallen off. I managed to find the screw which had worked it's way loose and refitted it but noticed that it required a phillips type screw driver. I thought this was odd as there's no space to get a screwdriver in there and I could only hand tighten it.

I decided to look for a replacement air filter as the current one looks a bit battered and realised that the pancake filters aren't standard. It makes sense to me to revert to stock, and a quick search seems to indicate that's the general consensus however I don't know what stock is?

Can someone please link me to the correct stock air filter for a '71?

Thanks

The original would have been a metal oil bath. It looks like the smaller illustration here https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/bay-bus/fuel-induction/air-filters/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Should be correct for your bus if you have the plinths/stand in place, these are sometimes cut off to fit twin carbs
