Just back from an awesome 5 day trip at Silverstone for the F1 with some fellow VDubbers.

Bus runs well once he decides to go - currently having some sort of issue with cold starts and still suffering the odd backfire / misfire. I’m sure the two issues are related and we very nearly got stranded leaving yesterday when the engine decided to cut out in heavy standing traffic.

But we got home under our own steam and running at good motorway speeds of 75mph whilst maintaining sub 100 coolant temps.

So getting closer to ironing out the gremlins.
I’ve got a new coil pack to install and a crank position sensor which could be causing the poor cold starting and will be lengthening the post cat lambda sensor and actually having it fitted to the exhaust. But getting there none the less.

Now onto the pics

Once we were all set up in the blazing sunshine we got down to some serious partying - maybe 5 beers got drank might have been 6, I can’t remember.

Clare was that warm she had a nap outside

Woodlands Camping area has some great entertainment and we were treated to Tom Dibb

Next day arrived and Clare and I were fortunate enough to have Drivers Lounge VIP tickets so we took a walk over there for a (messy) day of free food alcohol and entertainment

The bus had a bit of a hissy fit on the way out of silverstone for an unknown reason so we sat the traffic out for 10 mins and got going again

Made it home without further issue and had my fresh parts waiting for me upon arrival

Genuinely lol'd then!! See exactly where you're coming from!
Cold start issue seems to have been resolved with a new crank sensor - a genuine one rather than the £10 ebay one I fitted!!

Well today was eventful - with the bus now travelling a little quicker than before the front wheel bearings have become noticeably louder, so in my safety conscious mind I thought they’d need swapping out. But hey because I’ve CSP disks it’s an order of magnitude more expensive for the twin axel wheel bearing kit - Aka £105 gah!

Ontop of this added expense unbeknown to myself but unfortunate and unexpected for the buyer my old perfect 4 speed 3 rib gearbox has developed a rather significant fault in the interim of being sold and installed so as a good person and decent egg it’s going to cost further pennies to put things right. Got to love aircooled parts! Oh well best foot forward and onto the pics.

Check out the races on the CSP disk hubs - how do they come out? Hmmm easy behind a tapered blind hole. Apparently welding is the key

And look at the lovely groove my pads have worn into the alloy hub - been causing them to get grabby and noisy to overcome the groove and bite into the disk

All removed and cleaned up - there was grease everywhere

Cleaned up the alloy hub and removed the groove - as matt Damon would have said “I engineered the **** out of it”

And after all that and at the end of the day the replacement items arrived. Nice quality bits of kit.

Fingers crossed I can get the wheel bearings sorted tomorrow and the unfortunate issue with the gearbox. #gutted nobody wants a disappointed customer #shame

Awesme write up and glad to hear the conversion has gone so smoothly. Be interesting to see what difference the O2 sensor will make when its fitted.

Made it back from an awesome time down at Dubs At The Castle 2018! Was a long hot trip back in 30 degree temps but we made it! Bus is still popping but getting closer to resolving the issue - anyway some pics

Oh mate believe me your not the only one!! boy did i get some grief

Great time had by all. Not sure if you noticed, but I never gave you one bit of rinsing or even an off the cuff quip about your conversion. Apparently Abel was there for a day but we somehow all missed him, I’ve been waiting to meet this chap for ages. At least this year, everybody was exceptionally sensibubble.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,, Yeah right, who’s got the most scars then?

Hey bro, whats the deal with your drive shaft angle? How are your CV's holding up?

Drive shafts are fine with no clunks or bangs from the CV joints - although I am running beetle ones due to the narrowed rear end and they were cleaned and repacked with grease during the rebuild. A little of the excess grease has escaped from the boots are carefully applied itself on the engine mount but im happy with that as it stops corrosion :msn4:

Other than that no issues to report - running sweet now ive sorted the cold start issue, which was electrical and although easy enough to avoid still needs a final fix. Basically dont plug anything into the 12v auxillary side of the loom or the bus wont start!!
