Hi, first time on the site. I have a 68 panel conversion and had a petronic electronic ignition fitted before our trip of 350 miles to Cornwall. All fine till 4 days in the battery went flat and now the ignition light is on but no oil light, turn ignition off and the oil light comes on. Van won't start. Any please have any ideas. I have changed the coil, no difference

Yes charged the battery and it turns but doesn't fire. I disconnected the main battery and the leisure battery was still powering the dash so I took the fuse out

Where are you camping ?...there are several VW/camper specialists in the county, one of them could be on your doorstep

In Mawgan Porth near Newquay, thought I would try this site first as been meaning to for ages, don't fancy recovery back to Lincolnshire!!!!!!

Scott Wilson on here is in Perranporth

I used Nigel Allen when I had trouble.

He's almost at the end of the runway at Newquay airport.

Ime leaving for Cornwall in the morning ,not in the bus tho ,if I can help when I get down PM me and I can pop over ,if I can bring some bits and bobs with me if this helps.

deffo sounds like that elec thingyne bobsy , as above throw the points back in.

good luck at least you are stuck down there and not on ya drive.

I remember reading somewhere that the petronix can be cooked by the coil if you leave the ignition on for long periods of time

ps its not something simple like the engine flooded is it

Thanks all, could be that the ignition was switched on by accident closing the curtains as it is a switch replacement :? So could be fried! See what develops tomorrow have got points and a coil and someone on the site may have a condenser.

Just another thought, I had a pertronix in my fastback some years ago and lost all power all of a sudden whilst driving once, turned out the pertronix had failed and the coil failed as well. Don't know whether the pertronix failed and took out the coil, or vice versa. You might want to look at both being a problem though.

Aye, most likely burned out points or coil if the ignition was left on. Easy fix.

Thanks, looking closely at the pertronic ignitor it looks cracked so about to order a new one and some bits that were missing to go back to points. Lets hope that does the trick.

Thanks to all, I have finally received parts and fitted points and condenser and a few burnt wires from a first attempt, Got Her Started!!!! However I think I may have managed to reverse the polarity as the generator light now glows when the engine revs, think I shorted the battery when fitting/removing it umpteen times. Once again thanks.
