The bus has had a 1 spline drop on the back for a few years during that time i've had a 4 into 1 header and various different backboxes... all of which have had some scrappage some major some minor.

Currently i've got a mondo and its only a few months old...

I'm now going lower and dont want the same probs or worse... so without getting a monza, what are my options? whats got the best clearance?

Thinking about loosing the bhp and going back to stock.

Your views if you will...........................

Stock - more clearance than you can shake a stick at.

I doubt it'll ever touch anything. The engine brace and sump are lower than the exhaust ever gets.

CSPs new Python system fits the bill perfectly, theres a section about it in this months volksworld mag

http://www.csp-shop.de i think machine7 are stocking them, fits bays up to 71! nice!
looks like it tucks right up under.

start saving :D i think its about £600, or blow some of that compo money

wow thats awsome :)... comp money been swollowed already by the wedding and creative stuff otherwise this would certainly be high on the wish list

I love the CSP exhausts.

I want their stock-looking exhaust for my bug, but again, it is around £600. Gonna have to wait a bit for that.

Just to add, since fitting my stock exhaust from a monza, I've got more torque and power. Can't complain.

yeah me too 8) , i saw one recently compared to the Turbo Thomas stock stainless with fatter pipes, both quality made! i lean slightly towards the CSP offering as the muffler looked cleaner.

They are very nice exhausts.

I know the Turbo Thomas ones require you to remove the exhaust muffler to adjust the valve clearances though.

I'd prefer the tiny peashooter tailpipes too, for the ultimate sleeper look.

:)

i definitely agree but the TT ones are built for bigger engines and the stock look. Is there anyone sells the stock system as stainless? bluebird maybe? (i think i just answered my own question  )

...not bad for £275, shame they dont make them for Bugs as well :(

Ant,

Go for the Bluebird, I've got one and its a great peice of kit.
They also sell for less at shows so i would aim for £225. A lot more than a decent normal stock but much better.

So are these 'standard' type exhausts ok for a 1776-type engine, or are you just compromising too much....?

depends alot on valve sizes, are you running standard heads?

Just asking for the future at the moment Johnny - I want to get a 1776 soonish, but not specced anything up yet. I'll save that for another thread :)

Are you running a stock 1600 :?: Ive got a monza 4 tip and want to change it also and yes the van is low, infact i dont reverse in to spaces now for fear of hitting the kerb (again  )is stock exhaust the best way to go for the best in power etc on a low van. Any suggestions :?

How far does the Python tuck up then? ie what sort of ground clearance do you think you would have say on Camper&Bus' Westy (looks like a 2 spline drop)??? I'm looking at the pics in the June 08 C&B mag and the how to guide.- pic 24 looks like the Python is still quite low but maybe its the angle of the pic?

I'm also considering the Bluebird, thanks to Johnny and Kempy! these look pretty good to me.

i thought that ...infact i was looking through that very mag at lunchtime today. That one picture does make it look like there isnt that much clearance, need to see one up close.

Sorry mate for the slow reply, yes I'm running a bog stock 1600, with stock air filter, distributor and everything kept meticulously maintained.

Getting 30-32mpg, and it'll cruise comfortably at 60-65. :)

I've noticed virtually no difference from the monza, except I can now hold a conversation at 60 without shouting ;)
The engine runs more smoothly with the stock exhaust. But the monza has always been a dreadful exhaust.
