Have been having some running problems with my bay, big flat spot under load and when you hold the revs its spluttery rather than smooth, setup carb and set ignition timing and no joy.

Its a 1.6 TP and has a 30/31 PICT carb fitted, i belive it should have a 34, this one be ok? Was running a 009 dizzy but took it out today to check the point gap and the screw that holds the points in was loose and the thread in the dizzy is knackered so the points being all over the place is probably what was causing my problems! Ive found a vaccuum advance dizzy in the garage so will put this on instead.

My question is, is it ok to run a 1.6 TP with a 30/31 PICT carb and a vac advance dizzy? or am i never going to get it running properly with this setup?

cheers :)

As long as your carb has a vacuum take off you should be ok.
Just check that the vac signal from the carb is compatible with your dizzy.
Time the engine with the vac hose off, then point your strobe at the timing mark and reconnect the hose, see if it pulls to full advance if it does the carb isn't compatible with the dizzy.
As for setting the carb the only adjustable setting on a stock style carbs is usual the tick over mixture, main jets being set. To change your running mixture you would need to change the jetting setup.

Hope this helps.

Hi

Cheers for the advice, fitted the vac dizzy this evening, dosent run atall well, set ignition timing and its flat as anything and just pops up hills. A road test to the top of the road was far enough! This 2nd dizzy must be no good or as you say perhaps my carb not compatable. Really want to the van to volksworld over the weekend. I live locally to just kampers, see they have repro 009's for sale for £50, anyone know if these are ok?

cheers

IIRC 1600TP's come with a 34 pict 3, maybe the carb you are using is to small.
Set the timing to 7.5BTDC, check the points, check the plug gaps, check the valves clearances.
