Thread size needed - Steering column

I was wondering if anybody knows what the thread size is on the steering column, i need to buy a die to repair the thread. The damaged thread is the one for the steering wheel nut, its not the nut thats damaged but the actual column.
The van is a 1968 if that helps or makes any difference

checked Bentley and doesn't mention the size just the torque setting

it's a 27mm socket to remove if that helps?

27mm - M18 I think but is probably a fine thread

of course it could be 1 and 1/16 AF, but I'd bank on the metric as most likely.....

how bad is the damage could u not get a needle file to clean it up
