can anyone help me with suggestions as to what the plug on top of my alterantor might be? i can take a picture if it helps but its raining and i dont want my hair to get wet and have it go all frizzy. (just trying to lighten the mood a bit, i've only got seven hairs) but seriously, i'd like to know what it is if anyone can help. i always thought i had a generator but after some internet detective work, it seems i have an alternator.

Hi Mate

Most aftermarket VW alternators would have 2 connectors on them, a large ring connector from the battery and a smaller spade connector on them, if you have a 3 pin connector it may be one of these (see bottom of page) http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/connectors/housings.php#ap" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

thanks for the info.
i might take a picture and post as the plug seems to be in addition to the ring and the spade terminal connectors

tha type of alternator (3 pin) has an external regulator, usually on the bulkhead on right side of enginebay
for vw wiring & electrical bits try .....Peter at...
