Hi all, after reading many threads and consulting old volks home site I am confused!

I am running a 1641 with solex 34pict3 carb, standard oil bath air filter, accuspark svda dizzy with elec ignition.

Some sites state TDC at idle, others state 7.5BTDC both vacuum plugged. Anyone have a definitive for this?

I know most folks say that the timing should set at max advance at a certain rpm but I only have a basic timing gun and no tacho.

Any pointers greatly appreciated

Try 28 degrees at max advance with vac plugged. Should be safe there. It'll go up more when you put the vac back on but should be ok there.
Hope that helps. YouTube has some good vids.

whs ^ 28-29 is about right. personally run accuspark svda. 28.3 at full advance. when idling should fall back to about 7.5 bdtc.

you need over 3000 rpm, vac plugged. wind it up till you think thats loud that will piss the neighbors.. then a little bit more, that should be about right. just keep them rpms steady
