I'm looking to buy a timing light to replace the very cheap Halfords-purchased LED light I got about 10 years ago. I'm willing to spend a bit of money on something I'll use for years, and would like one that has a digital display that shows dwell, rpm etc etc aswell - can anyone recommend something?
Failing that, is the Gunson Xenon light that Halfords sell for about £44 any good?
Thanks

I have a Gunson advance timing light which i find is plenty good enough, its idiot proof to use, just set the timing you want on the bottom switch and move dizzy untill tdc lines up.

I bought a Snap on light off ebay, its got the advance dial on the back so works well when setting a BTDC then i bought a cheap meter from Maplins (think it was around £15) this lets me set the RPM's when adjusting the carb and also check the dwell, also it has an inductive pick up so you just clamp the HT leads the same as you would with a timing light

Hi Froggy - bought exactly the same meter from Maplins (comes in a yellow plastic jacket) - I cannot seem to get the RPM figure to read consistantly - jumps around all over the place, making it almost pointless in terms of setting up - is yours ok?

Mines fine but found that it picks up to much induction if fitted onto the dizzy cap end of the leads, try fitting it onto a spark plug end, remember it doesn't have to be number 1 any plug will do as it just detects firing and it doesn't need TDC like when setting timing
