Considering (actually about 70% decided on it) on tubbing the front of the Bay. Whilst not intending to SLAM the bus on the deck, I do intend going fairly low and on a 4" Narrowed beam.

The wheels I intend fitting are 17's and have been told the narrowest tyre I can get on the rim is a 175 (does this sound right? 7x17") with a 35 profile.
So is this going to cause me a problem as I envisaged needing something thinner?

Secondly to any of you who have tubbed your van do you have any pics?

I cant see how it'd be that hard really. Only a shallow Tub, just enough to make the difference but not too much to raise the seat uncomfortably........

Any experiences of doing it yourself??

Hi,
there was a "how to" feature in camper and bus a few issues ago, cant remember which one though, they were tubbing a split pickup, step by step pictures and then later modding the front seat, might be some use for ya...........think they used trailer mudguards if my memory serves me correctly?

.........hope this helps.................kev

Very helpful and you only took 6 hours?? Well thats pretty much me sold on it then! How easy on a scale of one to ten (ten being the hardest) would you say it was?

Nice work,Having done the tubing do you think it would be easier to use
some Z shaped plate to raise it.And spot weld it all together

On the outsides I made cardboard templates(I might still have it). On the insides I used 2" square tubing. Thanks for the compliments everyone. Unfortunately It did not give me the room I needed so I am going to raise the dog legs and the doors 2". I will make measurements and take photos when I do so. Scale of 1-10 I would say it was a 5. If you can weld and have a cut off wheel your good to go.

Sorry, but tubbing is butchery,

don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way, don't do it, no way..........

No its not........ its nothing that cant be very easily rectified! lol

How low are you wanting to go?
I've tubbed mine very slightly so i could fit 18's with 225/40's.
Only gone to the seat hight all the way across the arch as i didn't want my recaros to sit any higher,
Depending on seats wheel tyre combo i'd say do it there are plenty of stadard buses around for the purists

nankang do a 185 35 17, a 165 40 17, and also do a 165 35 17

i have a couple of sets of porsche 17's for my bus mate 205 40 17 rear and 165 40 17 they look like rubber bands so the 35's must look like a rubber coated rim. i havent tubbed as a spent a load on new og vw arch tubs and didnt want to butcher then. but if i was doing it again

tubbin all the way. :D :D :D :D :D

I'm going for 17's yes... and want a sizable drop although not completely slammed...... I intend using this bus plenty so want it nice and low so that it looks lower than your avarage dropped bus but without the major headaches. Only able to buy supplied with 175/35/17's which is a concern as I have 35's on my GTO and they are practically non-existent!! Mind you that is 1.8 tonne of car and it survives....
