i dont think it would clear the engine or gearbox, looks like its from a car with a front mounted engine

The tow bar is for a late bay mate ,mate of mine has one on his bus

does the bracket attach to the torsion tube?

Yeah Johnny the bar skirts under the engine and straps to the torsion tube they did them for earlies and lates
