cant understand it myself, surley anybody that is in to them and knows a bit about them wouldent buy one, which means theres alot of people out there that have to much cash and not much sence, they seem to lose more cash on resale than a kia or hyundi.dont they also come with 1.4i petrol engines?and silly looking roofs.id be intrested to see what they sell for in brazil,im guessing there less than £5000.

sorry for the rant and for going of subject a bit but i really think there crap

got to agree with the last post they dont come close to the real thing in my opinion, the ones ive seen are very poor quality,ie build quality, even the bodys seem to be rusting in no time at all,and thet ugly radiator on the front just about kills it for me,a real nice german bay is the way to go,your money will be a lot safer.german all the way. :D

The Danburys are late and look ****, so thats were they lost my interest right away.

Those new Bays are for old folk with fat pensions and not much sense i think. If i was spending that money id go for the sportline or something.

So, whats with 2 spare wheel covers? Am I correct in thinking that the front one is 'fake' and covering the radiator??

I was simply stunned by the prices....35k for a new ugly bay...madness. You have to wonder whether in 30 years time they will be a classic...who knows?? We'll all be old men and women by then!

I do believe so, some just have the radiator though.. Whats wrong with aircooled? hardly hot enough here to require a new engine.. they spoiled it in my opinion.. i love the sound of a good old aircooled engine.. :D

I just like the following:

a) We're all tax exempt

b) new brazilian bays will depreciate in value quicker than an aging hooker

c) It's NOT a classic.. like the new beetle

Aircooled engines wont run on bio-fuels and Brazil uses bio fuels

Its the future ;)

I'm not sure that's true - I thought that the last Beetles were running on Bio-ethanol OK although I think they used Fuel Injection. In fact I think the last AirCooled vans from Brasil also had FI.

Maybe it was emissions that killed off the aircooled engine in the end - could be wrong though

Cheers

So thanks to 5th Gear we've all just had the price of our bays rocket,
Was talking to a bloke the other day (on another forum) and he has a brazilian( :? ) and it sounded like it was a pile of rust already.
Cant see them lasting 30 - 40 years.

Was going to buy a new vwt2 van a few years ago. Buy the time i put everything onto it i wanted it was nearly £30,000
so i decided to buy this

and this

and still didnt spend nowhere near £30k.

Could be getting near it if bits keep falling of the van :D

Bought if fom new a few years ago, supposed to be 1 of only 250 made for this country and i suspect it to be 1 out of 1,000,000 for the rest of the world

its great, bits fall off, things stop woking, not very economical, very similar to the camper van  but mechanicly is great.

since i have had it the list or things i had replaced on it goes on including the roof for the rear heating element in the window not working. Got to go back to dealers for the roof to be repaired again.

The big question is would i buy another? YES i would 8)

What I can't understand is how much they said it would cost to buy a classic bay and get it to the spec of the Danbury! I think they said £25k

My westy has a great interior for family camping. It has good heating - Propex. It has a 240v hookup, 12v, DVD, stereo, sink, cooker, etc and it cost a whole heap less than what they predicted.

If you want a cool family camper you just can't beat an Early bay.....that goes for other conversions too, Devon, Doormoble etc

The figures seem all messed up, could be good for those selling though!

;)

Faux, I would imagine the predicted cost would involve getting a mechanic to do all the work, moving the chequebook rather than actually getting the hands dirty. She did mention fitting a new engine too. I just hope no-one is inspired to fit the watercooled 1.4 engines to any OG bays...

it is good, but how long until they stop production of door skins without the silly groove? we already have no front panels and flat arches... seems easier to get repro panels for splittys!

Supply and demand matey, as early bays get more popular and valuable its only a matter of time before dealers and manufacturers start specializing in the unique panels like the front end, arches, sliding doors etc
