Hi all, Anyone know what's the best method to use to get a nice line between the two colours when I paint my bus??

I was thinking of painting the top half white first overlapping a couple of inches into the bottom half
then masking it up and sanding back the paint below the tape then painting in the bottom half??

Any better ideas?

volkswagen sprayed the bottom colour all over then masked off below the bulge and sprayed the top after, not sure how they got a smooth join, but if its in the right place it shouldn't leave much of a ridge anyway...

this is what you need.

Really? I was thinking if i did that i'd end up with a step in the paint where one was thicker than the other

Best way to join the paint tones is at the roof gutter..

yea that certainly would be easier, still in two minds about it

Yeah you will, you'll get that whatever way you do it because at some point there has to be an overlap, however its not really that noticable as it should be masked tight up to the swage line. Are you using direct gloss or basecoat and laquer?

Although logic dictates that you should work from the top down and therefore paint the top colour first, it is easier to mask off if you paint the bottom first, that way your masking on the flat sides and not on the swage line.

On the removable panels at the rear, the door slider cover and the opposite side take time to get the masking right otherwise it'll look wrong when the covers go back on. It's a good idea to take the bottom colour well over the step so the join is hidden under the removable panels.

Fine line tape is a must!

cheers good tip on doing the bottom first that does make more sense masking on the flat.

I'm actually just going for a rustoleum job until i can save up for a pro to do it but want to get the best result i can

Ah! You will get somewhat of a ridge then, if its masked tight enough up to the bottom of the swage line it shouldn't be too much of an issue really.
