i have same poblem with gear stick coming loose
does the loctite, 2 spanners advice work?
and how smooth is your gear change? mine is quite 'notchy' albeit more positive than the original stick
gerry

I have the mkI version which were more expensive, the shaft is welded into position & are also handed.
I would use Loctite 638 on threads if you can get it does go off very quickly if that don't work nothing will. ;)
As for your notchy shifting try the thiner stock shifter lock out plate instead of the much thicker one supplied.

cheers terrier. I've swapped the lock out plate and it worked for a week then lost it. Tried everything but still no reverse!!

Bugger I thought it was all sorted. One thing I can tell you last year mine got notchy going down to 2nd from 3rd then reverse became a bit tricky. on investigation I noticed the two bolts holding the shifter to the cab floor have worked loose, not much though, so I tightened them with a gert big allen key, wont move now & no more probs. :)

Sorry just seen this...

2 spanners and the come on your barsteward method works, mine is nice and solid but I did have to give the spanners some to get them tight enough.

As for the changing, mine is nice and smooth. I used the standard plate that came with the shifter but it did take a fair bit of fannying around to get it lined up so I could change gear. I then put my bus in for it's mot prep work and they guys there fiddled some more and it now changes gear really sweatly (well for a 43 year old bus that is!!!)

Perservere they are a git to adjust spot on, just tighten up the bottom of the shifter and then back it off so you can just move it with a screw driver (this is how I did it) and you will ge there.

I'm thinking of buying one of these, are they worth the money? I like the stock look of them, cheers.

Hi - I've just fitted one and the difference in shift is amazing - slots straight into gears and it's much tighter.

One issue I have is that the gear stick is higher than the original so when the handbrake is pulled out it's really close to the gearshift and makes it difficult to release the handbrake easily without reaching round the back of it - has anyone else had this problem and managed to find a fix for it? (The base mounting is as far back as it will go so that's not an option)

Cheers
