durham.....its nice
For a 71 early bay, has a shitty rubber bung in and today thought it smelled a bit combustable,,,, petrol been pouring down side panel on the bends
Any advice on sizes/availability would be top 8)

Cool Air sell the BBT locking caps to fit your bus. They are great quality at a very reasonable price - under £20.

I'm beginning to think I have the same problem - there's a smell of petrol around the bus (especially near the filler area) even when it's standing in the garage. There are no leaks anywhere on the system. Not long after the bus was on the road, I had to put the seal back on the petrol filler cap. Seems like a sensible idea to try a new filler cap before doing anything else but, the BBT one looks like the one I already have. Are there any other, decent options?

Yes, I have got some available.
Check out the ad under Non Early Bay Parts for Sale & Wanted section.

The seal on the BBT locking caps seems poor as supplied. It's just a small ring of rubber that is not secured to the cap, mine nearly fell into the tank in France this summer the second time I undid it ( I was investigating the stink of petrol by the roadside) I've since bonded it to the cap with some 2 part epoxy, I'll have to see how that stands up to the petrol vapour though. I also greased the inside face of the rubber to encourage it to slide round the neck rather than grip it and twist off.

Exactly what happened with mine - have gone for a different make and will see how that goes. Cured (maybe disguised) the smell of petrol in the garage - started drying a season's garlic from the allotment...

New petrol cap arrived Thursday - and solved the problem. Until today when, at the end of a long journey we went to fill up, and the new cap failed. Won't lock/stay on. So that's going back tomorrow. Sigh.

The locking one is rubbish, most of mine is in the bottom of my fuel tank, Deimos air cooled non locking cap is the nuts.

Thanks for this... tried them, sold out -but they were decent enough to recommend another supplier and it's ordered.

Let me come to your rescue,

Here is as great find:

Go to the "Thing shop" and order a locking filler cap. They are about £25. These are better than the standard locking ones and are the original ones used by VW:

They will fit a bus 68-71 :msn4: K & K sell them for a peverse amount: £180 plus shipping.
